we have reason to believe the house next door is a drug house

our bedroom window is right next to there driveway and the side door--several times a night we hear people pulling in--knocking on the door a few minutes later there gone

weve also been noticing cars pulling up some stay for a bit some some just leave right away after someone comes out from the house

at this point we really dont want to call the police at this point cause if the police show up at our house and then that one (not right away--Im sure they have to do some investagating ) but Im sure theyll figuring out who called

its funny too cause all of a sudden these people just appeared like one night no one was there the next day there all move in--there was never moving activity

theres about 7 people that live in the upstairs unit thats bascially a bedroom and a half (theres not closet in the one room so I think it cant be called a bedroom ) and its small

any advice on what we can do would be greatly appriecated

thanks all

The problem with living next door is that one day, someone could accidentally knock on your door, thinking they are at the drug house. Not all knocks are friendly knocks. I understand you wanting to stay safe. If it were me, I would call the anonymous tip line and do it that way. Be careful.

I'd second the anonymous tip line but I get why any potential repercussions would freak you out. If anything I'd be masquerading as a disgruntled ex client to try and cover my back!

Could be drug house. Could be trafficking. Could be a code enforcement issue. I would just call law enforcement and let them take it from there. You can ask not to be identified or contacted.

If you're not safe, do what you need to to make yourself feel safe. I wouldn't attempt trying to talk to them (in most cases, going over and having a conversation could clear things up, this is not that).

Anonymous tip lines are there. Just straight up call the police and ask to remain anonymous.

Get better locks, more locks. Motion sensor lights for outside. They set off lights, they're gonna scatter.

ETA: Get this taken care of quickly. The last thing you want is some "amateur" operation going on and have them accidentally blow up their house, and others' if something goes drastically wrong with a meth lab or something.

I would call the police. I am probably in the minority, but I am of the belief that drugs ruin lives, families, and our society at large. I think a lot of the violence we see and hear on the news is the often the result of some sort of drug use that makes people do things they may not necessarily do if there heads were clear and not using drugs.

There is a huge drug problem in this country which gets worse by the day. If me calling the police on a suspected drug house stops even one person getting their hands on these drugs and stop them from using them, then I consider it a victory.

Like another person mentioned, one night it could be your door they come knocking on. Do you really want that?

If they are not doing anything wrong and there is a logical explanation, then you will know and be able to sleep easier at night. And if they aren't doing anything wrong, then they have nothing to worry about.

Go to the police station in person. They will probably have you speak to a detective. Since the people moved in recently, the police will probably watch the house before doing anything. Hopefully your police are better than where I live. We lived next door to a drug house for 20 yrs (they moved in few years after us). The house was raided once (it was an area wide raid). Slap on the hand and the dealing continued. They finally moved out this past Dec. Good luck!

I agree with calling the anonymous tip line. I would probably call from work or somewhere else, no possible chance of the neighbors overhearing you.

And it may look less suspicious if you're not around when the cops show up.

I agree with illegal drugs ruin things. The last thing the OP wants is this to be a gang-related thing, which drugs can bring that to your neighborhood. Then if things go bad, those people just shoot. They care not for innocent lives.

Years ago I lived in an apartment and had to make that call, I was so glad I did. You don't know who there selling to. It could be underage kids as well.

You need to report it....
You do not need to identify yourself...
Nobody has to, or should even offer, to come to your house.
In fact, the Police drug operations unit is probably already aware...
They may be casing the place, documenting evidence, and getting ready to do something.

Just be aware that there will probably be no visible action taken right away.
The police covert operations drug unit will casually case the place in non-descript vehicles.
They have undercover moles who look, act, and successfully pass themselves off as folks wanting drugs and doing drugs. (I know somebody who actually had this job)
Once they are able to ascertain, or be told by other druggies, that there are drugs for sale there, and how to approach to buy...
Then, one day, these people will disappear.
You may or may not even be aware of this when it happens.
They are probably not going to speed up your street with sirens blaring.
It isn't always like dramatic police TV.

Wish I had the answer. We have a house on our street where it is pretty clear the the adult children are selling pot. But in a few months, as far as California law is concerned, that may be legal. And given that this is small potatoes, when the cops are busy busting operations with thousands of plants and hundreds of pounds of pot, it isn't a priority for police.

Make the call now; don't let it continue, especially being next door. We have a drug house on our street. The adults in the house have been in and out of prison with various meth charges. About 2 years ago SWAT was staked out in our next door neighbors yard for a bust. It's a nightmare.

I would call the tip line or non-emergency number. You might not be the only one in your neighborhood that is concerned, but the only one to make the call.

We recently learned that the house which we moved into last fall had previous renters whom the neighborhood felt were pretty shady, but no one made the call. From people sleeping in the backyard in tents, to visitors all day and night, and no clear idea as to how many people truly lived there. They were only there for a few months before being evicted. But we had to deal with some of the cleanup. Finding evidence of drugs in the house and yard, to sketchy people coming to our door. Needless to say, the neighborhood is happy that we are here.

Go to the police station in person. They will probably have you speak to a detective.

This is what I would do. That way, the person taking the report can get the detail they need. If you call a tip line anonymously, there might be additional information the detectives would want and they wouldn't have a way of getting in touch of you. Incomplete information could cause a delay in the response, or in the tip not being addressed at all.

To echo those above, just because you call the police doesn't mean they have to send a marked car to your house. Vice squads typically work undercover - wearing street clothes and driving unmarked cars. I'm sure they'd be willing to talk about your observations at the station or even at a neutral spot, like a park, where it would just look like you were talking to another person.

Often times vice activity is being investigated for awhile before arrests are made and search warrants executed, but your information might put these people on their radar or provide more info towards an ongoing investigation.

scary stuff. My neighbor turned out to be a drug house because one night, a team of swat and like 15 police cars showed up at my neighbors door.

never knew as i didnt see anyone come and go but i guess one of the person in there was a dealer.

I remember at our company we hired some non violent prisoners. It was a program set up that allowed non violent prisoners out during the day to work at local companies. At the time unemployment was near zero. While in prison they were fantastic, polite workers for us.

Then they were released from prison, and everything changed. All 3 went back to their criminal, thuggish ways. One guy began selling drugs in the company parking lot. He was even showing off a gun at times. We called the police about the situation. The police told us to not do anything basically, that they were already aware of the guy and planned to soon arrest him. Sure enough a week later, our parking lot drug dealer was in the news for being pulled over by the police with drugs found in his vehicle.
