There sure has been alot of people dying during the last few years in Natural Disasters. I wonder if it is natures (God's) way of controlling the world's population. In the last 100 years the world's population has tripled to over six BILLION people. This has put incredible pressure on our environment.

I wonder if Mother Nature is self correcting. When God sees that the Earth is overpopulated, Natural Disasters occur and decrease our population. I wonder if the Bird Flu will occur and decrease our population further.

While death during natural disasters is tragic- maybe it is all part of a master plan that will limit the number of people on earth before the population would get so large that mass starvation and wars over limited natural resources would become a worldwide crisis far worse than today.

Your thoughts?

People have died more catastrophically in the past than now. We have the means to rescue large numbers of people from earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, famon and pestulance. That of course is only a new phenomenon of the last 100 years. 200 years ago, most of the world was a difficult, miserable place. 500 years ago, even more so. God's plan isn't "population control". He has a grander plan.

I've been wondering something similar in the past few weeks.

Hurricane Stan -- mudslides in Central America
Hurricane Katrina
Earthquakes
Tsunami

:confused3 :guilty:
So sad.

No it is not GOD's will to cull the herd so to speak it can't be there is no GOD it is just an unfortunate side affect of the disaster itself and the ever changing environment of the earth.

If you're worried about dying in a natural disaster move to Storrs, CT - home of UCONN. According to Slate.com it's the Best Place to Avoid Death by Natural Disaster. I knew there was a reason I went to school there. :rotfl:

No - I don't think this is a plan of God's to control population -

I disagree.

I think it is more likely that God placed gay people on the earth as population control. As much gay bashing that goes on by many (not all!) churches. I always have to wonder if it is at least possible that gay people were in God's plan. If so, I think God is pretty pissed at some folks now.

Can you airpop my corn please? Oh heck, gimme some of that pink popcorn.

Do people really seriously think this way? I'm not trying to be obnoxious. It just honestly boggles my mind. :confused3

Why would God have created people to just have to destroy them in a nat. dis. for pop. control? Makes no sense.

Matthew 24
Signs of the End of the Age

1Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2"Do you see all these things?" he asked. "I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down."
3As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"

4Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,[a]' and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.

9"Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

I think that NATURE will attempt to bring balance to the earth but not in order to control the population. Nature doesn't 'think' but just tries to correct imbalances much as a mechanism might.

As for God causing these things, I just don't believe that he would.

Me too.

Disasters are NOT from God. Every good and perfect gift is from above in which there is no variation or shifting shadow.

No, But I do think Mother Nature will be Time's Person of the Year.

What a cool prediction. I wouldn't be surprised if it came true.

In response to the original post, no. I don't think recent disasters are God's population control.

On a similar subject, someone asked me the today if I thought the obesity problem is evidence of natural selection. My response: How would I know?

Of course it is part of God's plan, he controls everything.

Now, see, I don't really want to get off topic here - but I don't see how anyone can believe that and still proclaim a love for God. I don't believe in God, but if I did, and if I believed that it was part of his plan for my father to die of cancer or for the little boy down the road to get run over by a school bus or for a whole nursing home full of old people to drown in a hurricane - then I would be SERIOUSLY pissed off at God. I've always heard people say that about all things being part of God's plan. When Paul was born so tiny and so sick and we never knew those first few weeks if he was going to live from one minute to the next, more than one person told us that it was "God's plan." It was seriously all I could do to keep from jumping up and screaming in their faces, "Then God is a really, really bad planner!" If God is sitting around up there picking which toddler dies from leukemia and which wife gets beaten to death by her husand and which village gets wiped out by some epidemic - then I wouldn't want anything to do with him. I'm much happier just believing that sometimes bad things happen just because that's the way the world works.
