My child may have a broken arm. (We are in the waiting room now at an urgent care). We fly out tomorrow. Can anyone help me with what I need to consider with regards to the parks/rides/care if a cast or sling is needed? All we know right now is that it is very painful to move it. Thanks for any help!

If casted, you want to let the doctor know you will be flying (pressure expansion.) See the first two pages of the WDW FAQ for any attractions that might be a problem. It's indexed. Typically, as long as he can hold on with one hand/arm when needed, he should be fine.

You are flying out TOMORROW? Yikes. Our experience with children and broken bones is that an urgent care won't cast them, they will splint and refer to an orthopedist which you won't be able to see until probably mid week, unless you have a very large Children's Hospital nearby and you can go there instead.

If it is broken, you should NOT fly out tomorrow if it isn't casted. Even after casting, if the break is bad, your child won't be cleared to ride ANYTHING jarring or bumpy. I hope you have travel insurance. You may need it. Hoping it's not broken!

We have never had urgent care cast anything.

My daughter has a broken index finger that need surgery. She had surgery the day before we went to WDW for the AP Galaxy's edge preview. It made for a very different weekend than we had planned. We let her lead us in what she felt up to doing.

I know if it is broken a cast probably can’t happen for a few days. I am hoping urgent care can xray it, rule out a break and help us out. Fingers crossed!

Our last experience with urgent care wasn't great. They said my daughter's finger was a clean break. She was away at sleepaway camp and as soon as she got home we went to an orthopedic doctor ( which urgent care said only to do if it was still hurting her in a few weeks). Ortho said go see a hand surgeon. We saw the hand surgeon Thursday afternoon who saw that she basically shattered her knuckle on the original X-ray. We left his office around 5 pm. Went out to dinner and had a call saying see you tomorrow morning at 7am for her surgery. We left for WDW around 4ish.

Do you have a children's hospital nearby? If so, leave the urgent care and go to their ER instead. This advice was given to me by our local ER when my son injured himself on a trampoline when he was 4. I took him to the Children's Hospital instead where they were equipped to deal with his injury right there and then. They paged the on duty pediatric orthopedic doctor who came to examine my son.

Thanks all! We ruled out a fracture, looks like tendonitis or nerve impingement, he got all kinds of meds and compression sleeves and is ordered to rest his elbow!
