Possibility of Spring Break discounts?

I have a friend who wants to go over Spring Break. We've never traveled that time of year so I'm kind of at a loss.

What are the possibilities of discounts being available then? My thinking is highly, highly unlikely...but I don't want to steer her wrong. Anyone ever seen discounts for Spring break...specifically she's looking at the week of Easter.

I'm thinking they will block out those dates on whatever Spring promo is out.

I wonder how fast stuff fills up for the Spring break season. Her on-site resort choices are also limited, due to their family size....2 adults and 4 children.

The week of Easter is one of the busiest weeks of the year. I doubt that there would be discounts as Disney can easily fill rooms without offering discounts.

Luckily, Disney has not blacked out Easter week for deals for the past few years. The thinking on this board is because spring break is now spread out from February through April -- no longer focusing on Easter week. I can't remember off-hand what the exact percentage discounts were, but a search on this board would show.

So happy to hear this! We are limited as to when we can go - scheduling around ds's school calendar. So we're thinking either Easter 2017 or Thanksgiving 2017. :)

Yes, same here! I always keep a close eye on Thanksgiving too and seems like Wednesday, Thanksgiving, and Friday are blacked out for room deal, unfortunately. I would love to go at that time of year, but not at full price.

Interesting...now not sure what to tell her. Wait and see kind of thing I suppose. Thanks for the info!

I've always gotten some discount, even over spring break.

This year was the first year in over 10 years that my kids' spring break was over Easter. I rented (way ahead of time) a one bedroom villa at AKV Kidani from an owner through redweek. Paid $2,000 for the week. No housekeeping, but that's fine, the price worked, and the villa was fine.

There are always options other than going through Disney, like doing a rental. I found that the weeks I've rented through redweek or the TUG boards are often less than David's vacation club rentals.

Here's a link from Mouse savers that shows discounts for the last few years (what the discount was, the release date, and the book by date):

http://www.mousesavers.com/historical-information-on-walt-disney-world-resort-discounts/#codetrends

It doesn't give specifics like which resorts were offered or exactly how much the discount was for each particular resort/room type, but it will give you an idea of what discounts were offered around that time frame :).

I think renting points would be a good option for her. We've rented dvc twice so far and have loved it! However, she's a little apprehensive.

Sounds like you got an amazing deal. Price through another dvc rental co is around $3300 for that same week for a 1 bedroom at kidani (6nts). I had already checked for her, lol.

But i appreciate the tip about redweek, i have never heard of them, but i will def be checking there before we book next time.

We have always used a company. You've had good experience renting straight from the owners? Just been nervous about a scam situation.

I've rented many times through redweek. They have lots of information to help you understand how to protect yourself and make sure it's a legitimate rental. I even found a broker through them, through which I bought our second week at Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club!

I have inquired a couple of times on rentals that sent red flags up, so never proceeded. Common sense helps.

A couple folks I've rented from were so nice that we're actually facebook friends now!

I do find that it's less to go through redweek than David's, but it is something that many are apprehensive about. Common sense - never wire money, use Paypal! Make sure it goes in your name after you verify the reservation exists. Yadda Yadda. And understand you won't get maid service daily unless you pay for it (once over Christmas we went ahead and set up daily maid service at the BWV we got from redweek - it was the holidays and I wanted it!).

Last April I believe the spring break discount was about 25% off for a deluxe, 15% off for a moderate, and 10% off for a value. Some resorts have slightly different discounts due to popularity. Let her know that she can often get further discounts if she books through an online travel agent. We booked a room at Yacht Club with Cheaptickets and saved 20% off the already discounted Disney price. We saved hundreds by doing that. The online travel agent discounts will probably start coming out late this year or early next year for April.

Your friend may be looking at either the suites at Art of Animation or The Cabins at Fort Wilderness because they sleep six. Both are great choices if you do not want to go with DVC.

If one of the children is under three, then your friend can book any room that sleeps 5.

Thanks for relaying your experience! I appreciate it!
