Our smoke detectors are less than 2 years old. They were put in when our house was completed June 2004. The have 9 volt batteries and are also hooked up to electricity so when the battery goes bad it chirps---even if you take the battery out. In Dec. two of them started chirping in the middle of the night. We got up and replaced the batteries. A couple of weeks later, one started chirping again-- in the middle of the night. We thought we had a bad battery so we replaced it again. Two nights later, it started chirping again-- in the middle of the night. It has been doing this for about 4 nights, never in the daytime. It stops by 8:00am. We can sleep with it chirping since it is at the other end of the house but if we happen to wake up we hear it. It really isn't that annoying but we are wondering WHY it only does it in the middle of the night. We will be getting a new one this weekend. Just wondering if anyone knows why it might be doing this--ONLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.
