I totally agree. I honestly cannot fathom how difficult that must be.

Im sure you do, I would be real comfortable going to a Canadian Hospital, but at the end of the day most of the best and brightest go to where they could make the most money, this is why capitalism works and Communism doesnt

We’d be at or over $100000 already with all the tests done. Never mind the fact he’s on 4 antibiotics and they also give him insulin and do bloodwork every four hours. Add all the Kleenex i use when I’m there (I have a bad case of leaky eye syndrome) and we’d be screwed.

Yeah. It’s the #2 reason I’m glad we live here.

Continued thoughts for you and your dh. Hoping the surgery today goes well and things only get better from here

It looks like surgery will be a go today. I talked to Richard for a little bit while his dr was in the room (I was on speaker). Most of my time was spent reassuring him and reminding him that we already knew about the infection on (in?) his heart valve. I’m just thinking he was too out of it when we were originally told. He was the most alert I’ve seen him since this whole thing started which is an amazing sign. The baddish news is that he’s starting to get really frustrated and just wants to come home.

I kept reassuring him that he is in the right place and he should take it as a positive that the doctors are still working on this, not just going with status quo and throwing pills at him. I think he’s really missing his dog too. I’ve shown him photos and videos I’ve taken specifically for him but it’s not the same. When he does come home, Chewy will be glued to his side. Gives my side a break for a few minutes lol

My big worry now is that the doctors suspect something way worse and they just don’t want to tell me. Not that I want awful possibilities, but also I’d kinda like to know so I can get in fight mode

I think they are required to keep your informed so I doubt t they are holding any I formation back from you.

Yeah, I think he’s getting really frustrated and bored. He still spends a majority of his time sleeping though.

When I go up next time I am going to ask if Chewy can be brought up for a minute. I’m guessing the answer will be no, but it won’t hurt to ask. They do have TVs for the bargain price of $11 a day. He’s not a big tv watcher. He does have his phone with him so when he’s up to it he’ll start watching movies he has on his phone.

He should be in the operating room right now so, fingers crossed everyone. This surgery won’t ‘cure’ anything, I think it’s mostly for pain relief. But, that will lift his spirits in itself.

Do they have therapy dogs in the hospital there? Maybe you can request a visit? Not his own pal, but maybe it would help.

My DH was going in overnight for gallbladder and it turned out to be 12 nights, and two hospitals, very discouraging not knowing what's going on. But anyway, DH had several visits from dogs and it was a bright point for a few mins.

Hang in there, Kim. I think personally it's a good sign your DH wants to see Chewy and is getting frustrated and bored. Means better is on the way.
