"SKY HIGH" (2005) (Michael Angarano, Kurt Russell) (PG)
Action/Adventure: The son of two superhero parents begins a special high school where he's assigned to the "loser" sidekick class, but soon learns that he has superpowers, which he uses to vanquish super-villains, and save the school and his parents. Brightly colored and extra perky, the film makes good fun of the usual high school drama as it collides with the superhero genre for the teen set. Something of a live-action version of "The Incredibles," the initially sprightly film grinds its gears a bit as it goes through the Disney process of showing the main character he still has important lessons to learn, like the obvious value of loyalty to the little guys, the real appeal of the girl next door, and the inevitable treachery of the villain. Even so, there's enough fun to be had that kids will enjoy it and adults won't mind sitting through it. Rated PG, the film contains frequent cartoonish violence including scenes where characters are thrown against and through walls (but aren't otherwise hurt since they're superheroes or related villains); some moments of comic-book style peril, some colorful phrases and some bad attitudes.

DD (almost 7) and I went to see it last Friday. It was quite good! She loved it, and I actually enjoyed it alot, too. Usually, kids' movies have me checking my watch after an hour to see how much time is left, but Sky High was very refreshing- it was almost 2 hours, and I didn't get bored once. The actors did a good job, and the story, while somewhat predictable, was very cute.

We give it 2 thumbs up! :cheer2:

We loved it!

Thinking of dressing up as the father/mother for MNSSHP with DS as the son.

Now, where can I find tights for my DH? LOL He'll never go for it.

We went with our kids 9 and 12. They both knew it was cartoonish but thoroughly enjoyed it. So did we. Strictly a popcorn movie, but what's wrong with that?

I took my son to see this. He loved it. He said it was better than the new Willy Wonka movie.
