Who gets the results of a positive Covid test at the terminal. Obviously the individual tested and certain DCL employees. Anyone beyond that?

Thanks but that doesn't answer my question.

Florida doesnt have a restriction on rental car movement so you should be good.

Have a car rental you park in port if you are worried about testing positive. Flip side work with your insurance for a private flight home but it's doubtful the insurance allows this and would push you to drive or quarantine in a hotel.

I am no expert on all this but I don't think anyone can release your medical records (including a + COVID test ) without your express written consent. That is what the HIPPA laws were designed for - keeping your personal medical records private. I am sure if I am wrong others will chime in.

You are not correct. HIPAA only applies to specific entities, and port testing by a cruise line is not a covered entity.

Also it is HIPAA.

I have no doubt that your case will be reported, but your name shouldn't be. Let's hope so.

There are probably a bunch of “it depends” based how all the local/state/CDC policies interact.

The test is actually done by Inspire Diagnostics, and they are a healthcare provider. I know I had to agree to a long provacy agreement, but I didn’t save it and can’t find it in the safe passage site. I would suspect it had HIPAA language in it. The FAQ for their community testing page says they report to the individuals doctor and can also report back to the individual via a HIPAA compliant app. I couldn’t find a similar FAQ from them on this type of testing. I would suggest calling Inspire to see if they are sharing test results with county, state, or CDC health departments.

European here, when we get tested and test positive, regardless where it is, it is reported to our CDC. Although, I am not sure to which detail, but I would assume name is included.
Our centralized testing sites ask if they can inform your GP if you test positive. Commercial testing sites cannot.

I don’t see why it would be handled differently than any other positive test—results are sent to the authorities for tracking purposes. I’ve tested positive twice since Covid began (last summer and earlier this year) and both times got a call from the state to place me under a quarantine order (which I was obviously going to do anyway).

I thought the same thing, but I don’t live in Florida, and I know things are being handled a bit differently there.

I expect the test results go into some database count somewhere, whether that's FL or the CDC or your home state or what. If you are asking "will the airline know that I was denied boarding a cruise ship because I tested positive at the port 2 hours ago?" -- probably not, I don't think there are any testing systems that share updates that quickly. However you do need to attest that you haven't tested positive in the past xx days before boarding an airplane. Whether it might catch up to you after-the-fact is a possibility.

Along the same line as the OP's question...for those who already took the PCR test - is this a regular PCR test and do you receive a paper or digital copy of the test results?

As a Canadian, I'm concerned about getting to the port and one of us testing positive...and not having anywhere to go except directly home.

So, I was thinking, if this happens, we would drive to the land border, provide the test result and we can quarantine at home (of course, with testings throughout the quarantine). But in order to do this, we need a PCR test to return to Canada. And if we drive directly home, we won't be able to go and get another test to show at the land border.

What "authorities"?

it is reported to the CDC (both embarkation and disembarkation tests). it would be found out after you fly and at that point you would be arrested for reckless endangerment and possibly fined.

Curious how they make someone take a disembarkation test? Do they not let you off the ship?

I'm sure that if you decline a disembarkation test on federal property they can hold you. They can also ban you from future cruises.

Honestly, it sounds like you're not ready to cruise in the current environment. There have always been rules for getting on and off seagoing vessels, and if the new rules are not to your liking, you should find another means to vacation.

Honestly, you shouldn't jump to conclusions and not make assumptions about other people. But thanks for your unsolicited advice anyway.
