Ports of Call, what do we take off the ship with us?

First time cruiser. What do we take with us when we get off at the ports? Do we need to carry our passport with us? Do we need to switch American money over? I assume we bring our room keys to show that we are Disney Cruisers.

Traveling to Eastern Caribbean and plan to now mostly walk around/head to the beach at St. Thomas and Tortola now that the zip-lining most likely not happen.

Any other tips on how/where to carry cash and IDs and what we should generally know when we get off at the ports?

We never take our passports off the ship, they go in the cabin safe and stay there until the cruise is over. Everyone will need their room keys(called your Key to the World, or KTTW) and adults need a photo ID, we use our driver's licenses. They scan your KTTW card when you get off and back on the ship.We also just use American money, never had any problems paying with it. We use lanyards to carry our cards in, money goes in a small wallet in beach bag. We never take anything we would be upset about losing, and when on beaches someone always stays with the bag or we rent a locker when available.

The waterproof id holder sounds like a great idea. It's just two of us so I don't see reality that someone will stay back on the beach while the other goes in the water.
