Portofino Balconies

We are staying in August. We reserved a bay view and requested a balcony. The rep said she would put down that we were requesting an upper floor, since that would make it more likely that we would get a balcony.

I know there are very few balconies at the Portofino. I plan to beg upon check in. However, because I am a Loew's card holder, we get a free upgrade if available. I guess that means they would upgrade us to a deluxe.

Here are my questions:

1. Is it true that the balconies are on the upper floors at the Portofino? If so, which floors?

2. How is the view from the upper floors? If a good bay view is important, are we better off with a lower floor even if it means no balcony?

3. If they offer to upgrade us to a deluxe, should we decline since deluxe rooms do not have balconies? In other words, does the balcony outweigh the bigger room?

Thanks for your help. It's our first time at the Portofino.

OK, I'll bite!

1. Portofino has standing room balconies, full size balconies and patios on ground level. They are few and far between. Request only. Not limited to one floor only, I believe.

2. The view is great if you are high and overlooking the bay, I liked it a lot. But, I also really liked my deluxe room overlooking the villa pool with a patio a lot too. It's ALL good! LOL If you can avoid a lower floor with no patio I would do so.

3.This is a tough one...I would say how important is the balcony? Me personally...I go for the deluxe. The ideal way to go for me is a deluxe with a balcony or a patio. How many staying in the room? If its just 2 I may grab the balcony/patio if the offer presents itself.

OK...just a thought on all the times we have stayed here and all the times we had a patio or balcony compared to not...I would take the balcony if offered, yes.

Its a beautiful property. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Any other questions...feel free to ask! :)

DON'T SET YOURSELF UP to be disappointed. There are so few rooms with a balcony that your chances are VERY LOW.

Everyone is a Loew's cardholder. The bookings are running very high. Last time I was there they had a big sign that said no upgrades. You weren't even able to get an upgrade if you were willing to pay.

I agree with Jessica, grab the balcony if it's available.

I am pretty sure that almost all of the rooms in the west wing with full balconies are either deluxe rooms or suites. Most of the stepouts in the west wing are kid's suites. All of the balconies in the east wing are bay view rooms. There are some balconies in the villa wing with views of the pools that are deluxe rooms. There are also some balconies in the villa wing with bay views but the majority go with the the Gov., and Pres. suites. and their connecting deluxe rooms.

The higher you are, the better your view of bay. Just don't let them put you to far from the elevators in the west wing because the view declines the farther down the hallway you go. The top floors of the east and west wings all have balconies. The top floor of the west wing is all villa parlors and deluxe rooms and the top of the east wing is all bay view rooms. Sorry for throwing so much at you but I was on a roll. Ask away if you have any more questions.

Don't apologize. I appreciate the details, as well as the rest of the responses. Thank you.
