Yes there are always porters waiting to help and tips are always appreciated. I had a porter help us all the way to our and even unloaded our luggage for us, just ask.
At Port Canaveral, when you exit the ship you'll go down an escalator (or take the elevator) to the lower level of the terminal where the bags are. There will be a line of porters at the bottom of the escalator just waiting to assist. They pretty much work on a rotation so the first one in line will be the one to help you.
Tipping is very important to these porters. They do a lot of work, including finding your bags, to make the return to civilization easier on you.
we've had porters in both port canaveral and port of miami take our luggage to the parking garage and unload it into the car. and yes, we tip pretty heftily - we've usually got a lot of heavy bags and sometimes they are balancing the bags on their carts for a long while as we wait in the customs line etc.

Ditto for us!! We just got off in Miami and our porter took our bags a long way to the 4th floor of the parking garage and loaded them in the heat and humidity. We only had 4 bags but gave him a hefty tip. He definitely earned it. He as a true pro and thanked us sincerely without ever looking at the amt.
I know tipping is a personal thing, but how much is hefty? $20? $50? We won't be driving, but may need help at some point and I admit I'm clueless when it comes to amounts! So please share if you care to, it would be appreciated!

Of course keep in mind that there are only so many porters. Our last cruise we got off at the beginning and there were no porters available because of the rush of people. If you hang back a little that might help. We too give $2 per bag and if they take us to the car in the garage then we tip an extra $10.
We usually need help getting the bag from the storage area, through customs and then out ot the curb to the taxi, we usually tip about $10 for that, we have 4 bags (2 big ones and 2 small ones). I guess we shorted the guy two bucks, next time we'll do more.
