Hubby and I are driving to WDW and taking my SIL and MIL with us.

We are toying with the idea of buying one of those 9" tv/vcr combo's but are cringing at the thought of spending around $250 for it.

Does anyone know if you can rent these? If you've ever bought or rented one of these tv's, can you give me some info/opinions??

Thanks!

Our Sam's Club has them for $159.99

The Cosco near me has a Sansui (spelling?) 13 inch for $179.99

We're going in July. I'm hoping the price will come down for Father's Day.

I've noticed that the LCD screen TV/VCR combos that come packaged in a carry case have also come down in price. In fact, our local Target at one on clearance for not much more than the 9" ones.

The reason I brought this up is that using a household one in a car can be dangerous. I recently read a warning that these can be very dangerous if not mounted in a secure bracket. Not only is there a risk of the TV flying through your car or van but regular picture tubes can "blow up" if something else hits them hard or they are knocked against something too hard.

The smaller LCD screens that come packaged with a VCR are much safer in a car. Of course it's your decision, just wanted to make sure that you knew there is a safer alternative.

We travel from Pennsylvania to Myrtle Beach each year. We have rented (several times) from a company called Survive the Drive. They will ask you what day you plan to leave and then ship you a TV/VCR unit to your home the day before you leave. We always rent the unit that comes in a soft sided "suitcase" so that the boys don't have to look at the floor to see the TV screen. You can also rent an accessory set to hook up a video game system. Their standard week is 10 days which gives you time to return it after your trip. I always pay for the prepaid return postage label and then just call UPS (I think that's who they use to ship) to have them pick it up. The company does have retail stores, maybe one is near you. Hope this helps!

You can also use headphone with the unit, which I highly recommend.
