Portable toilets allowed?

I know this is probably a stupid question, given how nice the FW campground is, but I was wondering if portable toilets, and accompanying shelters, were allowed at Fort Wilderness.

I have a five year old little girl, and was hoping to bring a small flushable marine toilet and a portable Cabelas shower shelter for use adjacent to our tent in the camping areas. I thought it would be nice to have it if she (and her accompanying parents) have to get up in the middle of the night for an emergency pottie break, especially if we end up far away from a comfort station.

Also, I want to add that these boards are great! This is my first post, but I have been lurking for a couple of months and have found this board an excellent resource!

I am trying to introduce two young ladies to the outdoors (age 5 and age 29), and I thought this would be a fun place to do so. We will be tent camping...so any other tips (especially geared towards little girls and moms) will be appreciated. I have camping for years as a boy scout, but it has been 15 years or so since I have been camping, and am looking forward to starting fresh at the fort :)

Thanks!

First of all :welcome:

I don't think that there would be a problem with that setup at all. Have a wonderful time!

Just don't let your neighbors know, especially if you are too far from the comfort station. It will probably fill up faster than you think..:lmao:

I think it's a great idea - we wouldn't be able to camp without a potty. Hey, we keep one in our van - otherwise we'd be stopping every 20 minutes with our daughter and it would take us a week just to GET to disney!

We had neighbors in November that had a little tent-like "outhouse" - complete with the little half moon on the door.

I carry just the same setup and have never had a problem at the Fort or any other campground, in fact I have the Cabela's privy tent too!:thumbsup2 Handy for those late night issues. I have a chemical portable toilet that came with the trailer, it's never been used! The first time I emptied the one I had on the boat, decided not a fun thing.:scared1:

I now use disposable toilet bags, one brand is called Wag Bag. Each bag has some powder/gel like chemical in the bottom, when liquids come in contact they instantly gel. Good for several uses, then you put the bag in the included zip lock bag and drop them in the trash. The bags are biodegradable so I don't feel guilty using them. These bags can be used on a variety of portable toilets, including your portable chemical toilet, just line the bowl with the bag.

A little pricey, last I bought was from Camping World online, $26 per 12 bags. But worth it to keep from having to clean up the chemical toilet.

If you do decide to use the chemical toilet, it's best to find and empty full hookup site and dump/rinse down the sewer hookup. There's a hose right there and you're out in the fresh air!

You can also carry your portable holding tank to a comfort station & dump in a toilet. Just be very neat, don't slosh on the floor or commode, and whatever you do....don't use stall #2!!!

I tow one of those big blue Porta Johns when we come to the Fort.

Welcome to the boards gd3!!!

Your setup sounds fine. Most of us fiends just find a canal for those sorts of things. Just don't aim at a gator....that kinda ticks them off.

the comfort stations (at least 1.5 years ago when we were there). My DSs call them "those really fancy bathrooms." I think FW is a great place to be introduced to camping, as long as you realize your young ladies will expect all other campgrounds to live up to it. We usually family camp with the cub scouts in the middle of a field with a hike to the spider-filled dirty bathroom which has no hot water. Between the comfort stations and the electricity at the site, we call FW "not real camping" which is fine with me.

When I tent camped at the Fort, I used a similar setup all the time!!

I have a portable toilet inside my T@B now and empty it at the comfort station.
