Thinking of purchasing a small portable gas grill for cook outs at hh. Tried the charcoal route last year and it was to time consuming, plus chicken wasn't done. will they allow me to use it on porch or picnic table by the charcoal grills. going with four kids, and do not want to wait in line for dinners. any info would help!!

I don't see why you could not use it at the picnic tables on the ground. I am pretty sure they would not want you to on the porch. There are sprinklers on the porch but I could still see it as a fire issue. Those small grills with the small green propane tank work pretty good. I have cooked off of one bottle for a week before.

Cooking on your porch might (and I did say might) be disruptive to your neighbors upstairs. Just something to consider if in fact it winds up being permitted.

As far as the charcoal grills go...we always do that at least once a trip. ..usually at the spot near the playground, although we have done it at the huge grill near the main lodge once before.

Some nice fresh kabobs just taste so good!...Must be the air in Hilton Head I guess

Grills are not permitted on the porches at the resort (at any DVC resort), but you can certainly set up your grill in the areas that already have the charcoal grills.

Sounds like a good plan!

Enjoy!

Grills are taboo on the balcony of any DVC resort. Even when VB didn't have grills, they are not allowed, trust me, I know from personal experiences. When I requested a unit near the grills, they didn't tell me there weren't any and then about 2 weeks before our trip I reitterated our requests and then was told NO GRILLS. Well, we'd already bought steaks for 9 for 2 meals. I asked about a small grill and was told no. They still had my emails where they'd confirmed my requests and didn't fess up to no grills so they bought us all lunch at the restaurant there. They did offer to pick up the steaks, grill them and return them; but I declined that option as timing is everything with grilling.

I was staying at a condo unit once and the joker upstairs unknown to me decided to use a grill on the porch. Well the wind was such that the smoke blew into our condo unit, I called the fire department thinking the place was on fire. I ran out only to see this guy who now hears the fire department coming trying to put out the fire on the grill and hide it. He did not get away with it. I would not grill or cook anything on any porch at any resort, there some on this site that think you should not smoke on the porch, let alone grill. I would think it would be just fine to grill outside near the grills they have there.

o.k. o.k. i will not grill on the porch!!! But i am glad that i can grill on site in a very safe location. I will be very careful not to put anyone in harms way!! what was i thinking!! thanks for the wakeup call.
