Portable DVD Player

I am considering taking a portable DVD player with me to use in long lines in the parks. Has anyone else done this? How bad of an idea is this? :happytv:

I don't think it is a bad idea, per se. I find, however, that with fast pass, I can avoid most lines that would be long enough to warrant the use of the player. Also, most rides that have long lines are also a little on the bumpy or wet side, and I wouldn't want to wreck my player.

I don't think its a good idea, everyone should pay attention when the line moves up and watching a DVD might distract you and others behind could get testy. Lines are not that long and as others have stated, fast pass works on the longer lines attractions.

A DVD player, portable even, hooked up in the resort room is a good idea, we use ours this way, for the crappy TV stations in WDW. A good movie now and then on TV breaks the hum drum of the Disney cable, we use it every trip.

I was thinking hubby might want to take his gameboy for when we're waiting for Fantasmic to start, but I can't imagine using a portable DVD player while standing in line.

If the lines were that long that you could actually watch something, what would you get, maybe 4 or 5 rides (figure 30 minute waits) before the battery died. The batteries on these are ususally good enough for about one movie/dvd. Then what? Put it in a locker. Carry it around the rest of the day.

Agreed. I think sometimes of taking my ipod but, I'm like, "it's Disney". I just figure if you really plan well you can avoid those super long lines.

Of course, I dont get upset by seeing anyone with a DVD player. I mean it's up to you but, I think it would be more of an inconvenience than anything.

Leave it. The more I have to carry the less happy I am and I see no important reason to have a DVD in WDW. How about talking or playing "I Spy" or some simple game like that.

So many of the lines have interesting pre-show, can't imagine that the dvd would be as interesting as enjoying the fine attention to detail at the parks. Just MHO

It would be a hassle. Maybe an Ipod, but not a DVD(don't get it wet though). I have seen people in lines with paperback books.:earsboy:

I think an Ipod video would be kool (if u have one). U can watch movies on that or listen 2 some tunes. It's also small and u can keep it right in your pocket.

My nephews take their GameBoys with them to play while waiting for a parade or show to start. Keeps them from getting too antsy.

I don't think the lines will be that long to need a dvd player. Plus, as others have stated, if you're watching that, then you're paying attention to the line in front of you. I've never been in lines that lasted that long. I always have a book in my bag to read while waiting for a parade or show to start.

My son brings his Gameboy as well but he has to be responsible for it - he keeps it in a fanny pack since I will not hold it when he is bored with it

There is so much going on around you, to me the time in the lines didn't seem bad at all. People watching, just resting, from walking from one spot to the other. The worst line for us was Soarin', there wasn't much around us to watch, and we seemed to go through their trivia questions quickly.

I didn't find the lines to be boring, just because of the atmosphere.

Wow, I would never consider taking a DVD player to occupy my kids in line! What ever happened to good old fashioned waiting? It's good for ya! Kids should learn to people watch and talk to their family members and take in the scenery to pass the time.... JMHO! :goodvibes

I can see how a DVD player would help kids to behave while sitting still on a plane... but in line they're able to move around and there's always something new to see!

Actually, it wouldn't be for my kids (as I don't have any). It would be for me... I tend to get bored easily (Ah the wonders of adult ADD)...

Ok I've decided not to invest inthe DVD player after all thanks to the advice from this thread. Just so all concerned know I'm saddled with Adult ADD and it can make me a little :bounce: :Pinkbounc  which is the only reason I considered it in the first place. I had no idea that it would only play one movie before going down (I have never even considered owning one of these until I thought about going to WDW, so I have little knowlodge).

Anyway thanks for your advice, and given your thoughts I think I will try to "rough" it with nothing but the very good company of my spouse. Maybe because it'll be the second week of December (Right after finals) it wont be that bad.
