Portable DVD Player out at security?

I thought I saw a post or article somewhere that said portable DVD players had to be taken out, like a laptop, when you go through security. Has anyone else heard or seen this yet?

I just want to be prepared for our flight out on Friday.

No. full size DVD players (as in AV components) have to be out, but a portable DVD player should be fine wherever it is.

That's true as far as the written policy goes, but there may still be some confusion in actual practice and application. We travelled through Tampa last week (one day after the new policy went into effect) and they were announcing that all electronic devices larger than a cell phone needed to be removed from bags before going through the x-ray. Not how the policy reads and they may have their act together by now, but as always is the case you can run into some screener or even an entire airport staff that doesn't understand it or is just using a different process. Just be prepared to go with the flow, follow instructions and don't argue with the screeners.

Flew home from Chicago on Saturday and TSA was asking saying that all DVD players and any other electronics had to be scanned separately. Not sure if that is a written rule or discretionary, but that was the rule Saturday in Chicago.

Heh, I would say that is a very good tip . For some reason, even if you are right, I have a feeling that you REALLY dont want them to single you out. They could just make your trip miserable..

Ya, I could just see this... Trying to explain to DW and DD why they get to go on the plane without me because I argued with the TSA over a DVD player...

Not me...
