DS wants a Mophie, but they are pricy. Any recommendations on cheaper chargers or should I just go with the mophie?

What type of phone does he have? I got a pretty cheep brick type charger at Wal-Mart. I think it was less than $20. It worked perfectly fine with my Iphone 5 and would get me about a charge and a half. It was about the size of a tub of lipstick.

However, I recently switched to the Samsung Galaxy S5 and it uses a USB 3.0 cable. I have noticed some of the lower end chargers (looking at you DTech Mickey charger) won't even give me 10% since they are USB 2.0 devices. The mophie brick does fine but only when the phone is connected to it much like my phone does if I try to charge it off a computer.

He has a iPhone 4S. Not sure what type of cable it takes.

He will be fine with any charger on the market.

I prefer the bricks to the actual case chargers because the case chargers are bulky. The mophie brick is about the size of a pack of gum and my knock off was the size of a lipstick tube. Both work fine on our Apple devices.

Stay away from the D-Tech one. I still haven't gotten to work right even after returning home and it cost as much as our cheapest mophie.

You can also find the lipstick size ones on Amazon for less than 20 if there isn't a Wal-mart close.

I'm a fan of Mophie products myself, but I've also found Anker and Jackery brands to be both inexpensive and reliable. The vast majority of their battery packs are universal - just plug the USB end of the charging cable for whatever device you have into the pack.

ANKER and POWERGEN. I've heard great things about ANKER. My tech-savvy friend got me POWERGEN.

I just bought the Anker Mini charger to use when we go on vacation this weekend to use in the car and on the beach or just generally when we're on the go. I tested it out yesterday and it works like a charm and is small enough to fit in my wristlet that I carry most often. It was about $27CAD w/ free shipping on Amazon.ca, but on Amazon.com, they're listed as being $19.99. It comes with a micro USB cable which charges most samsung phones, but if you've got an extra iPhone cord that you can use, it'll work with that as well and you can just use the micro usb for charging the battery itself. You charge it by plugging it into your computer or a wall outlet using any standard ac adapter. I used the one from my Amazon Kindle yesterday to charge it. It charges much faster by plugging it into the wall than via a computer. Amazon states that it holds enough power to charge your device to full battery at least once.

I have one of the Halo ones from QVC. I like it a lot. I did buy the most expensive one because I use it for work, but I like that it can charge any thing with a USB.

I use it for my phone, kindle, bluetooth headphones.

It holds up really nicely and keeps a charge for weeks if I don't use and probably can do a full charge 3-4 times when I do use it.

I have a brick one, my brother has a lipstick shaped one and we both love it. It's my new go to gift for people.

We all have Ankers. They're about the size of tube of lipstick and fit easily in a bag or pocket. I think I got them during some of the Black Friday sales last year but they were all under $20.

I got the Anker ones for both of my nieces for Christmas on Amazon for $20 each. They charge their phones about twice and work great.
