Port Upgrades

Is this still a thing? If sod does anyone know what current Concierge upgrade costs have been?

They are still a thing, yes. Pricing seems to vary widely, it's based on what stateroom category you're booked in and what category you want to move to. I've been watching comments on this on social media-someone on the Dream seemed to score an upgrade for less than $1,500 (IIRC), but other prices have varied greatly.

A good rule of thumb (though not exact) is it will cost 30-40% of what it would have cost to upgrade prior to sailing. Its a good ballpark but not 100%. Varies from sailing to sailing but this at least gives you an idea.

The thing is, 95% of the time they won’t let you into the building until your PAT (or really close to it). A lot of people take DCL transportation hoping to get to the port earlier and snag one that way but it’s hit or miss. Also, B2B cruisers always get first dibs since they’re already in the terminal before new guests start arriving.

Several years ago I looked at a potential port upgrade, and the price was no different than it would have been to change in advance. We were a party of two, which might be important. From my understanding, the primary price savings comes from not having the number of guests taken into account, which helps if you have 4 in your stateroom, but not if you only have two.

Very often, no concierge upgrades are available at all, and not uncommonly no upgrades of any kind, even when you're among the first to arrive.

I suppose chasing a cheap concierge upgrade is terribly addictive but I expect the success rate is low.

There was one concierge veranda cabin available when we checked into our 12 day Mediterranean cruise 2 weeks ago. We were taken to the upgrade desk and quoted $13k for the upgrade. It was more than we wanted to spend as for my girls it wasn’t really an upgrade as they would have had to share the couch bed. We were already in a VGT veranda as the rate code. Gone are the cheap port upgrades. A couple of years ago we paid $6k to upgrade to a one bedroom on a 7 day fantasy sailing at the port. That was worth the price for us.
