Can anyone tell me who has visited the port of Greenock how one gets to Glasgow, which I understand is about 90 minutes away? The ship is offering transportation, but it is very pricey. Just wondering if they offer shuttles into town, or a train station is nearby. Same for Edinburgh -- Thanks.

Wow, that's awesome. Thank you. Yes, I spoke with Princess and it is actually 30 miles from the pier to the town of Glasgow.

You can get a train to Glasgow Central station from either Greenock West or Greenock Central. The train stations are about a 15 minute walk away from the terminal. The train journey to Glasgow is between 30 -45 mins. The trains are regular with a 15 minute service during the day. If you are travelling outwith peak times the train fare is £7.10 return (Greenock West) or £6.90 return (Greenock Central). To check train times you need to look on the national rail enquiries website http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/planjourney/search There are lots of great things to do in Glasgow.

If you are planning to stay in Greenock the Inverclyde Tourist group offer complimentary guided coach tours around the local area. It is run by local volunteers. You can book online before you go. http://www.inverclydetouristgroup.co.uk/content/tours/

The train to Edinburgh will take at least 2 hours each way. Greenock is on the West coast of Scotland and Edinburgh is on the East coast.

What month is your cruise?

Greenock to Glasgow takes less than hour by train.
Afaik there is no direct train from Greenock to Edinburgh, but there are several trains per hour from Glasgow to Edinburgh
