I've read so many posts on how great starboard side cabins can be, great for fireworks viewing ( I know, not supposed to watch from your veranda)

Port side is not bad at all, just not as great as starboard in my opinion ;). We've sailed the 4 day Dream cruise twice, once on each side of the ship. Yes, the starboard side has the gorgeous view of CC when you wake up. And, we did watch the fireworks from our balcony b/c we have two little ones who were fast asleep by that time. And it was totally awesome! But, honestly, even though we didn't have the spectacular CC view and didn't see fireworks from our balcony the 2nd time from our room on the port side, I don't feel that we missed anything. Truly, no complaints. There is still a pretty view at CC, just the "non tourist" side of the island. Nothing you can do about the fireworks, but, like I said, we didn't miss anything :). And if you don't have little ones in the room, you can go out to enjoy the fireworks. No worries, you'll love it!

My best memory of our Port Side View was leaving Castaway Cay! The Port side faces the dock of Castaway Cay. We sat on our verandah and watched as the ship sailed from the port. The cast members were on the dock waving goodbye with big Mickey Hands. I sat there waving back with tears in my eyes! It made leaving the island even harder but it was a nice goodbye (or see ya real soon!!).

I have been on 14 cruises and ALL have been on the PORT side. For some reason, I am better oriented on the ship staying on this side. Maybe it's because my very first cruise I stayed in a port cabin. I love that the afternoons are shaded and can enjoy a glass of wine and read on the balcony without being blinded by the sun. As another poster said it is wonderful leaving CC and seeing all the CM's waving with Mickey Hands!!pirate::wave2:

I'm glad I saw this thread. I just booked our first cruise and our stateroom is on the portside. I think I will be very happy with it!

We just took our first cruise on the Dream (starboard side). Going down my DS loved to lay in bed and look at the moon (1st night). Then he noticed for the next two nights he couldn't cause they moon was now on the other side of the ship. For our next cruise I booked portside so he could have his moon night light for 2 of the 3 nights. :goodvibes

We have a port cabin for our cruise. Thanks to everyone for their comments. I'm excited about shade, waving out of Castaway Cay, and the moon. These are all at the top of my list of things not to miss!

We sailed starboard on the Dream, Port on Fantasy. They were both wonderful. Got terrific scenic photos from our verandah on Dream - but got awesome "fun" photos of Captain Hook intercepting people re boarding when we were on the Fantasy. :-)

The shade in the afternoon would depend on which direction the ship is heading. On the Eastern Caribbean, you spend the first 2 full days heading south. That gives direct sun on the starboard side in the afternoon. But heading north again gives the port side direct sun in the afternoon.

If you are into people watching, the port side at Castaway Cay is the place to be. We usually watch for a little while in the morning -- really gives you an appreciation of how much work goes into the Castaway Cay experience. (You can see how much gets unloaded, the number of Cast Members leaving the ship early to be ready for you on the island, etc.) Now in the afternoon, we get back mid-afternoon and take our showers. Then about an hour before sail-away we like to sit on the verandah and watch the show. All the work that is done to load everything back up, all the crew and cruisers heading back to the ship.

The other benefit of the starboard-side cabin, especially with a veranda, is that the fireworks are shot off of the starboard side. No having to pack onto the pool and upper decks with the rest of the ship. We just sit out on the veranda in our pajamas and watch them before bed.

At Castaway Cay, the port side gave our DS5&8 a chance to watch the operations team working the ship's mooring lines. They got a huge thrill out of that. And we had a great city view of Nassau.

I'm glad you said this because I am the same way and thought I was odd. We actually try to sail very aft when possible and have the best of both worlds but I always walk the starboard halls instead of port.

We had port for two cruises. One was amazing because the guys who live at CC and undo the ropes had to do so in the middle of a very windy torrential downpour. I had so much respect for those guys and how brave they were. It was seriously rough. The other cruise found us on our verandah and watching folks on another ship totally miss their ship's departure from St. Thomas. It was quite a site to behold seeing their reaction.

If you are not in statroom does not matter. CC we in Cabanas eating when we got there. When to stateroom, got stuff for beach, they said all ashore. We were gone until 4.00 pm. Other stops one dock our side other its was the other side. But again we got off ship and were gone most of the day. Let St Thomas on deck 13 having a cocktail.
