My hubby and I are planning an after-Xmas trip and are thinking about staying at Port Orleans. We have stayed off-site and at the Swan and the Dolphin before. Looking for something on the quiet side (I know, Xmas will NOT be quiet!), nice pool, good access to DD and the parks. Thanks!!

We really like POR riverside it is quiet-I don't know how much you will use the pool in late Dec but if it's warm enough they have a nice pool. Easy driving access to all parks (except AKL) if you have a car- we don't use Disney transportation so I can't help with questions about the bus system but you can a take the boat to DTD which is nice.

Well, to tell you the truth, I didn't realize until today that there was a difference. I think it is the FQ- what is the difference between FQ and Riverside? Boy, do I feel stupid....Thanks for the help!

We are getting ready to book POR for early November. It will be our first trip to a mod. We usually stay at values or WL.

Port Orleans French Quarter?
Port Orleans Riverside?

POFQ is our favorite Moderate resort....with POR a close second! :rotfl:

*Fantasia* has some wonderful photos in a past thread.

Good luck!

POFQ, Port Orleans French Quarter, is a resort themed toward New Orleans styled martigris. It is smaller with no sit down restaruant and only one pool. It also only has one bus stop at the main entrance. POR, Port Orleans Riverside, is more backwoods bayou. Thry and imagine tom sawyer huck finn type stuff. There are a few mansion styled rooms that are like southern plantation style. POR had a sit down resaruant and food court. It use to be called the dixie landings years ago. Both are nice but POR is the only one that can hold a family of five with a trundle bed. Both are wonderful resorts. POR is more family anf fun where as POFQ I find to be quieter and more intamite. Both have boat servive to DTD. Hope this helps. princess:

We're booked at POFQ for mid-January and can not wait! The only on-site I've ever stayed at is SOG and hubby has never stayed on-site. So we're very excited about this trip.

We looked at both POR and POFQ and POFQ just seemed to be the more intimate resort.

Our family stood at the POFQ a few years back. It is still my favorite.

We stayed at POR and CSR in July. POR was by far our favorite. We are already booked there for next July. The hotel was booked to capacity when we arrived and we hardly saw any people. It definately felt quiet and relaxing. I loved how the foliage hid so many things and added to the private feeling of the resort. I don't think you can go wrong with POR.

DH and I stayed at POFQ for our honeymoon and it is one of our favorite resorts so far. It is so much smaller than the other resorts that it does feel more intimate. The theming is wonderfully done and the whole resort is very romantic. The boat to DTD is a nice plus and we always had good bus service. Also, the beignets in the food court are to die for. ;)

Our family has stayed at the Port Orleans during the spring and we loved it. The grounds are beautiful. The pool was so much fun. And we enjoyed the variety of the food court. We liked the fact that the resort was large which made it seem not so crowded to us at all. The breakfast at Boatwright's is not to be missed! The general store has a lot to offer. We really enjoyed the boat rides to Downtown Disney as well. :earsboy: :earsgirl: princess: pirate: princess: :paw:

I am staying at POR in Jan 06 with 3 kids. I have a trundle be room reserved. Is this going to be cramped. Is there a building I should ask for? Where is the bus to the parks located? We stayed at the poly last year, even though I loved the resort I can't justify spending so much more for the delux hotel. We did the meal plan and weren't really at the hotel much so I think this will work out for us.

I would any info about this hotel from people who are familiar. Thanks

We LOVED POR. It was so beautiful and peaceful. The restaurant was great and so was the food court. My vote is for POR!! :earsboy:

Those are our two favorite moderates. Disney spaz pretty well sums up both of them. We like the small size of POFQ and being close to food court, pool bus stop. POR is pretty large and you could be quite a distance from the amenities, but that is the only thing that makes me hesitate about POR. They are both beautifully themed resorts. There are some great pictures at www.ourlaugingplace.com

And don't forget, they are sister resorts and only a 10 minutes stroll from one to the other so you can use the pool, etc. at either resort.

We were there in July with three kids. We also had a room with a trundle bed and didn't find it to be crowded at all. We even had a pack and play set up in the room!

I believe we were in building 34. I thought it was very nice. We didn't use the Dis transportation, but the bus stop was just through the trees from our room.

Have a great trip!!
