Tell me about this resort:) Is there an area that is requested more often? Where is it located on property? I don't remember seeing any signs for it?
Thanks!! :goodvibes

POR is one of my favorite non-DVC resorts to stay in. I love the theming in AB, but the more traditional formal theming of Magnolia Bend is very nice also.
It is a spread out resort but the walks are not more than 8 or so minutes to the main bldg and they are very pleasant walks! The food court is large, with very ample seating. The sit-down restaurant at Boatwrights is good. I've eaten both dinner and breakfast there and enjoyed it.
The bus service is fine. Even though it makes about 4 stops, it doesn't take overly long to get to the parks.
Many swimming pools...one main one with slide and all the fixings. Then there are about 6 other 'quiet' pools spread out around the resort.

POR is considered a DTD resort. It is over towards that area, OKW is there, as is POFQ (sister resort to POR). You can take the boat to DTD which is nice.

Thanks for the great info!!! Is it true that you can go to POFQ for swimming? This will be dh's first time staying on disney property. We had planned on staying at ASMo with two rooms, but I really want to be on the dining plan. I can get a great rate room only....so I figured if I moved up to POR with the dining plan it would be a great way to introduce dh to the magic of disney. So far he hasn't been very impressed, anytime he's gone down we've stayed off property. So, with a family of 5, what would be the best building to request? I started looking at the faq thread and will continue looking at it:)

family of 5 narrows your choices down to Alligator Bayou section of POR. They have trundle beds in that section. Bldg 14 is the closest to the main bldg where the store, food court, and restaurants are. Bldgs 17 and 18 are also close. If you will be using a large stroller or a wheelchair, ask for 1st fl since there aren't any elevators in AB section. It's (bldg 14) just a few minutes walk to the main pool, Ole Man Island, and there's a quiet pool close also.

Thank you so much for your help!! Nope, out of the stroller phase and no wheelchair. I'm not really that fussy, just don't want to walk miles and miles after walking in the parks:)

AB is the choice for you!! I stayed in bldg 14 in June and it was incredibly close to the food court. In fact, the CM who checked me in told me..."If you were any closer to this bldg...you'ld be working for Disney!!!" In AB you will have two double beds and the small twin size trundle on the floor. My dd slept in it when she was 6, but she was very tall for 6, and still fit just fine.
As far as swimming at POFQ..yep, you sure can. It's a nice walk down the path to that pool. I've never been swimming there but it looks like fun for the kids!!

We loved the AB section when we were there in August. The plantings and the little pools and bridges are beautiful. We were in Bldg. 28 which was really close to a quiet pool, but maybe a 5 minute walk from the main building. We used the West Depot when we took the bus. I really didn't mind the early morning walk for coffee, though, because it was so peaceful and pretty. The boat to DTD was great. I would stay at POR again in a minute. :flower: Hope your DH falls in love with the place. :flower:
