Port Orleans Riverside

My fiance and I are thinking about staying at Port Orleans Riverside for our wedding (same with the guests). We like it because it will not be too far from the Boardwalk (where we are getting married), it looks a lot more shaded than the other resorts so you will not get heat stroke walking to the main food area and it doesn't seem like a resort that will be swarming with children like the Coronado and Caribbean (which would be good since I will be the youngest person in the group!). I trust your opinions, so I was wondering what you think. Would it be a good place for the 12 of us and is my impression of Riverside right? Thanks in advance for any help!

we have stayed at port orleans riverside in the past & it is nice romantic resort, we love the magnolia bend mansion rooms. the boat to dtd is very convinient and the pool is nice, they have a yummy oreo shake at the pool lounge nearby. there's also a carriage ride ($30) off the grounds. we've also stayed at the french quarter which is fun, we like the fountain & scat cats lounge.

Thank you for your advice! My parents have been to Port Orleans Riverside before and I know it is their favourite, but I wanted some other opinions. I really appreciate it, I don't know what I would do without you guys!

We are considering Port Orleans as well... 1) as a place for our guests to stay and 2) as a possible location for the wedding ceremony.

Has anyone ever heard of them doing a ceremony there? I know that the slogan is 'if you can think it, Disney can do it' -- I was just wondering if this option has ever been explored??

heidi, i asked about the gazebo/garden at port orleans for a ceremony venue (we were looking for something different too) ftw said that gazebo/garden is not a ceremony venue location. we ended up choosing the yacht club gazebo for our wdw wedding.

That was the primary hotel for our wedding. We loved it, it was very convenient. The put us all on a top floor of a Magnolia Bend building in the same section. We had our rehersal dinner at Boatwrights and enjoyed having a nice lounge onsite. I believe they still have live entertainment.

My wife and I just stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter for New Years. It was a really nice hotel. If you're getting married in Disney, I would highly recommend taking advantage of their hotel discount and stay at one of the deluxe resorts. We stayed one week at the Yacht club and one week at the Wilderness Lodge for out wedding. I can't tell you how happy we were we made that decicion. It's def. worth the extra money. You only get married (hopefully) once in your lifetime and might as well make the best of it.

I don't have any real information to offer except POR is where we choose to have our honeymoon stay at this September.

I also had no idea it was close to the boardwalk - this is good to know.

Kathie - I checked the map and it looks like it would only be a 5 minute drive from POR to Boardwalk, but I don't know if you could walk to it b/c of the Disney highways. Just thought I would make sure you knew that!

At each resort there is a bus stop for each park (including both waterparks) and Downtown Disney. I don't know if there is an easier way to do it, but when we were staying at the All-Star Movies Resort last May and wanted to go to one of the restaurants at the Boardwalk, we would take the bus to Downtown Disney or one of the parks and then hop on a bus to the Boardwalk. Staying at POR, I would probably take the bus to Epcot and then to the Boardwalk. Oh yeah, and the buses are complimentary, so you don't have to worry about paying for two bus rides there and back!
