Port Orleans Riverside Warnings?

Hey Everyone, I am awaiting for my Honeymoon trip to Disney in April and will be staying at Port Orleans Riverside and as I was curious as to anyone's past experiences in terms of things to watch out for or be cautious of. Not really meaning negative experiences, just tips and tricks and things to avoid or be weary of like worst times for things, unsafe area's, minor dangers. In theory when I made my reservations I requested the Acadia house and will be doing so again via phone with the room specialists a few days before.

Just looking for some tips and tricks on things to watch out for. Thanks for the help!

I always get lost at night in the Alligator Bayou sections.

Tip - Stick to the main path around the water as much as possible. Don’t try to take short cuts through the AB section or you might wander aimlessly in circles like me. Lol.

My daughter and I stayed at POR for a week and never once did I see anything unsafe or dangers of any kind. I have to say, nothing of the sort ever crossed my mind. We enjoyed the resort and would stay there again. It's a nice plus to be able to take a boat to Disney Springs. My only negative memory is, because we were staying in the Magnolia Bend area (Princess room!), we had to walk all the way around the front of the resort to get to the bus area. But that is really a very minor, "1st world" problem IMO.

Are you concerned about wildlife? As long as you don't wander into the bushes, stroll down an embankment or go in bodies of fresh water, you won't have any problems. We've stayed 8 times and never felt unsafe walking on the pathways at all hours. It's a lovely resort. Enjoy your stay.

Unsafe areas? There isn’t any. We love Alligator Bayou. IMHO it and POFQ is WDW best resort areas. I honestly don’t have anything to say about unsafe or bad things. We don’t worry about a thing. The kids love to wander around at night in Alligator Bayou. They are 12-14. We don’t think twice about letting them roam. Even after a long park day at say 11 pm. I’ll have a cigar and the kids will be exploring. The wife is getting ready for bed...

It's Disney. It's not dangerous or unsafe. Provided you stick to approved areas and do not enter where it says, do not enter

I really don't understand what you are referring to as unsafe? We have stayed at POR many times and never had a problem with not feeling safe. We always stay in the AB section and love their meandering pathways. Honestly, just stay away from the river area, and go about your daily activities. Nothing to be warned about at POR>

As far as tips, I would say that the boats to Disney Springs are most frequent at night. Its a great perk, but not the quickest mode of transportation. If you try to use one during the day, you may wait quite a while for it. And once you get on one, they stop at POFQ and then take a solid 20-25 minutes to get to Disney Springs with no AC. Just things to consider if its very hot or you're in a hurry.

I would also caution that the walkway to POFQ is in direct sunlight, and its about a 5-7 minute walk from the edge of POR. We didn't find it the most convenient for pool hopping, but we did opt to take a POFQ bus at the end of the day once because it came first. The walk is fine to do once in a while, but I wouldn't plan to do it daily.

And they do offer resort to resort shuttle. Unless it's recently been stopped. So walking isn't the ONLY way between them

Safety = non-issue. I even get up before dawn to get in a run before the family wakes up. Perfectly safe and, in fact, my favorite time of day to be out-and-about in POR.

Tip;
Love the boat to Disney Springs, but the line can be really long from POR-DS. Keep the proximity of DS to POR in mind - the bus ride is short and a much quicker way to get there. Save the boat ride for the return trip - the line for DS-POFQ/POR is usually much shorter and IMHO, more pleasant, especially after dark.

Not POR specific warning, but if you are on the meal plan, DO NOT order pizza for room service! They will charge you 2 meal credits which makes for a VERY expensive pizza, and it's not even that good.

I believe you can still use 2 QS credits for a large pizza if you eat in the food court or carry it out. I believe the TS credits are only redeemed for it when doing room delivery.

Not sure what building you were staying at, but there’s a bus depot behind parking lot between Oak Manor and Magnolia terrace.

We love Acadian House. Tip: ask for location close to Old Man Island foot bridge. Try to catch Bob Jackson’s show, really fun. Our fav in the food court is the Pasta bar, huge servings and can feed 2. Walk over to French Quarter to enjoy some Beignets! It’s a pretty walk. Love the boat to Disney Springs. It may not be the quickest, but hey, you’re on vacay and it’s sure the most pleasant and scenic way to go.
I prefer the satellite bus depots over the Main Depot, way less chaotic. When we’re in Acadian we use the North Depot behind Acadian.
No dangers I can think of.

Not sure what building you were staying at, but there’s a bus depot behind parking lot between Oak Manor and Magnolia terrace.

We were in Parterre, so walking over the bridge and to the main lobby was quicker. OR SO WE THOUGHT.

POR has four bus depots/pick up spots.

The only thing that ever bothered me there was on a solo trip, but that is the key word, solo, you won’t be solo. I am always one of the last to leave the parks, so a couple of nights I got off the bus at my stop and it was very late at night, like 1am or even later, and there was NO one around, it was quite creepy. So I was a little spooked on the way to my room! Not saying there was anything to be spooked about, I am not generally a spooky person, it was just unsettling! But not enough to keep me from doing it again, I love POR, it’s one of my favorite resorts at Disney! I don’t think being on your honeymoon that there would be one single issue to be concerned about. You can go onto Touring plans and lookup the map of detailed rooms and have a pretty good idea where you will be, they also have a room request form to fill out and they will send it for you at the appropriate time and I have had really good success with room request done this way!!

Yeeha Bob and the Pasta Bar are 2 of our favorite POR points And the grounds are absolutely lovely.

Enjoy your honeymoon Starchild! It's a very romantic resort and April has some of the best weather imho.
