Port Orleans Riverside vs. Polynesian

I don't fit your criteria as someone who has stayed at both resorts, but I've been to Poly many times and I think you're going to be hard pressed to find someone who would recommend staying at POR over Poly. As I think about it, you probably won't find anyone who would stay at a moderate over a deluxe.

My vote...POLY :thumbsup2

[Okay, this is a ridiculously outdated thread, but I'll play along anyway.]

Well I hate to burst your bubble of certainty but I will say we MUCH prefer POR over the Poly. While the size of the Poly rooms is a very big enticement, we prefer POR's theming, love the boat to DTD, find it much more peaceful than the Poly and like the dining choices better. POR's food court is really tough to beat on the cs front. For us, the Poly is not worth well over twice what POR is. We enjoyed our stay at the Poly but find it overpriced, even with its fabulous location and large rooms. I also find the pool way too small (the view of the castle is amazing but its a small pool that is always very crowded).

I also think that now that POR has been refurbbed and has the queen beds, this also makes it more of a contender against a deluxe.

Bottom line, most will say go for the Poly. Its a very popular resort in an ideal location. However, since this thread was started four years ago, they have cut down on when the monorail runs, POR has had a very nice refurb and believe it or not, I would pick POR over the Poly any day.

I do think the beach area with the view of Wishes is wonderful, just not willing to pay hundreds a night more for it.

All of this said, I think if you really want to try the Poly you should. I am glad I did, it was a dream of mine and while it didn't disappoint per se, it didn't woo me to the point I am willing to spend that kind of money again! Still, it was a very special trip and I have never regretted giving it a try. Its how we now know what level of resort works best for us!

I saw someone said that POR has double beds. This isn't true. They now have queen beds in all the rooms.

I've stayed at both and I love the Poly. If you can swing it, I'd highly suggest it. However, we've stayed at POR on several of our trips and we like it a lot as well. We stayed in Alligator Bayou last year and were very close to the first bus stop. It was so much more convenient and we hardly ever went to the main building.

To the PP who posted they are 5 with an infant,
Disney might technically let you stay in that room, but it's going to be pretty cramped in there.

:) on the old post.

IF all things were equal, I'd choose Poly for a summer stay and POR for a fall/winter stay. BUT all things aren't equal :rotfl2:

Poly garden room in Sept is $405/$435
POR preferred room in Sept is $189/$205

So, I'd choose POLY if I could only take a short vacation and POR for a longer vacation :goodvibes

If all things had been equal in "Die Hard", John McClain would have preferred being in Philadelphia. :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

I stayed at Poly once several years ago and POR twice last year and the year before. IMO, it depends on the kind of trip you are doing. My fiance and I stayed at POR and with just us traveling, we are up and out early and return later at night. We eat breakfast at the food court and rarely spend any other time at the resort. POR works well because it's much more affordable, and they have the best food court IMO. When we stayed at Poly, we traveled with my parents so we moved at a slower pace and spent more time at the resort and traveling back and forth to the resort so Poly was ideal for that. But as far as quality goes, the Poly isn't worth the price difference over POR IMO.

POR does have Queen size beds. We were there in May and stayed in a Royal Room - LOVED IT!!!!!! Very Comfy!

Ok - we've stayed at both. Here is my opnion.

If you only have a few days i say go Poly - cause it's quick and easy to get in and out of. We liked the resort themeing and loved taking the boat to MK. Our son also loved the monorail.

With that said - we LOVED POR but when we stayed there we had a car cause we drove down. It was great to have with your car cause the resort is super big; very beautiful, liked the food court and our son loved the little playground. The Royal Rooms were wonderful and i highly recommend.

Either resort would be fantastic!!!!!!!!!
