I have to decide between these 2 choices. They both look appealing so I am looking for pros and cons from the DIS community.

Since we are a family of 5 on a budget my choices were limited. This is a surprise trip for my DD's 9th birthday! Also accompanying us will be me, DH, DD(will be almost 14) DS5 and my Dad (53) and his wife (55). My Dad will more than likely just be getting over chemo treatments so that may be a factor as well.

Thanks!!

I would go with the Boardwalk because in my opinion they have a much better theme, atmosphere, bigger rooms, restaurant options when you include the Yacht Club, Beach Club, Swan & Dolphin. Plus you can walk to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

THanks for your opinion. I like the idea of being able to walk to Epcot and be close enough to come back and relax quickly if it's too hot. Thanks for pointing that out!

Assuming you are going with two rooms, one for you and one for dad but you want both rooms close. Seeing as you are looking at BWI vs POR you aren't as concerned about budget or you have a great PIN for the BWI. Assuming you are using WDW transportation and not driving. Assuming dad will not want to be walking extensively coming off chemo treatments and may want some down time to himself I'd go with BWI over POR any time. Gives dad the option of just sitting back at the resort while your family plays. Easy access to Epcot and HS and buses aren't as bad as some make them out to be while dad can sit on the Boardwalk and enjoy the activities there. The pool isn't as good as the SAB over at the YC/BC but it isn't bad either (the one at POR is one of the best for the moderates). Enjoy the planning and hope all goes well for dad.

I also would go with BWI.

Don't know when your planning on going, but there are some good deals out right now. We have 2 rooms booked at BWI for May. Got 40% off both rooms. A savings of over $2400.

We are going at Christmas and staying at both resorts. We are renting points to stay at Boardwalk Villas in a 2 bedroom for a week then because prices sky rocket on Christmas Eve we are going to POR Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Boardwalk Villas is my favorite Deluxe and POR my favorite moderate.

I've stayed at both ...

My main concern with BWI is the lack of counter service. There is a bakery (that will have a line out the door in the morning) ... but if you want a quick service type of meal, you have to walk to Epcot or over to Beach Club.

Have you priced them both out? While Boardwalk is a lot nicer and closer to Epcot and DHS, the price difference is quite dramatic, as Boardwalk is a deluxe and POR is a moderate. If money is not an issue for either party involved, by all means go with Boardwalk.

We would have 2 rooms. We have a PIN. My DH is active duty so we are getting a discount on the rooms and tickets.

I think that was why BWI came out so cheap for us is becaus of the 40% off for military. It's hard to turn your back on.:)

So it sounds like you enjoyed both. Good to know:thumbsup2

Lack of counter service would be a problem. My Dad enjoys sitting down to eat often.

I have priced out both. I was originally going to book 3 rooms at POP. 2 for my kids, Dh and I. Then the other room for my Dad and his wife as well.

Decisions, decisions.

YOu've picked our favorite deluxe and our LEAST favorite mod.....you cAn prob guess Which I would pick for you;)
Th BW offers so much to do and see; nightime entertainment with carny style performers, lots of dining options, boat oR walk to 2 parks, jellyrolls, and great nooks to sit and people watch or read a book.
The BW is especially nice if you have Ppl who might want to do different things or have different energy levels as the transportation is so convenient, anD for just hanging around the resort (we love the quiet pools, but the main pool has a great, fun slide, awesome theming, pool bar, hot tub, activities and games for the kids...
If you don't mind spending the extra, the BWI wins hands down:)

We have stayed at deluxes and stayed last year at POR and fell in love with it. If the price is similar, I would pick BWI but if there is substantial difference, I would pick POR, it is a beautiful resort. I would also try to get a preferred room, so you are close to everything. Have fun. Linda

Besides the Boardwalk Bakery they also have the Boardwalk To Go which is your basic foods like Hot Dogs, Grilled Chicken Sandwiches, Breaded Chicken Sandwichs, Nachos with Cheese and etc. Plus there is also the Boardwalk Pizza Window located next to Kouzzina. So they do have counter service locations, they are just not the same set up as the other Deluxe Resorts which have a full location for one. Plus along the Boardwalk Inn side of the Boardwalk they have tables set up so you are able to sit down and eat.

thinking of going fall break with 40% code....

Por $600

Board Walk Inn Std Room $1249...

YIKES..

we will PROBABLY drive so we'll have car....

Boardwalk seems cool...

POR might be TIGHT...

but that's a big dif in price!

Seeing as it's food and wine we'll want to spend lots of time at Epcot which is walking distance to Boardwalk....

Have stayed at POP [2 rooms] and enjoyed it...also stayed Poly and loved it....

I am also considering Windsor Hills to save $$ and have space 3 bedroom for less or same as POR.... OR Bonnet Creek....$650 for 2 bedrooms so having hard time justifying onsite except I have a PIN. LOL!
