Generally, yes - you've really got nothing to lose that way, and at least you know you've got the room type that you wanted. You can always cancel your initial booking if the later offers don't seem good enough (or don’t include the room category that you want), or keep it if you still want to go anyway. Andre

Thank you, Andre! I will book first then and wait for discounts to be released. :)

Need some advice! I went stayed here last year with my DD in one of the Royal Rooms and LOVED it. This year, we are going back (April 27th - May 3rd) with the whole family.

We booked the royal room again, but I keep wondering if we should try a new resort. It's hard to try something new when you loved it so much, but maybe we'd like the next one even more!

What do y'all usually do? Find something you like and stick with it, or try something new each time?

I just want to mention that staying in the RR if you did not walk over to the main bus stop you probably were at the last bus stop where the busses are usually pretty full. At least that is also what I found when I was in Magnolia and close to what I think was the last bus stop. Some times the busses were even full when they got to us and went by. I feel like being at a closer bus stop will be beneficial which is why I'm requesting a bayou room this time closer to the 2nd stop maybe. I know it is a little walk, but I think others are more likely to request close to main bldg., and I actually enjoy the walk, its' part of what I love about the resort, just being out there in all that beauty. Plus, we were on the other side of Magnolia anyway, toward the back lot, so that was just a winding building walk.

Which bus stops do the busses go to first, second, etc? I am debating between staying at the mansions or the bayou. Being closer to the bus stops is more important to us than being close to the main building. Thanks!

Same dilemma for us….we went last year and stayed in a preferred room at Riverside. This spring we are trying French Quarter but I know we'll be close enough to Riverside that we'll get the best of both worlds: something new and the ability to go back to what is familiar and what we know we love!

Silly question, but how bad are the mosquitoes during the summer there at the resort? Especially the bayou section...

It varies, there is no firm rule. Generally the MK buses do West>North>East>South, while most of the others do South first then W>N>E (sometimes having called at POFQ first of all), but it's not a 100% rule.

Not true. We walked to the main bus area. The busses were hit or miss at this resort. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason as to drop off / pick up / sharing with FQ, etc. The one time we did walk to the depot in back (WAY back…across a parking lot) of Oak Manor, the bus was so full we had to wait for two.

We keep experimenting, but we have a favorite. We have stayed at all the moderates, just back from POR. We were not big fans of FQ, liked Coronado, felt kind of ehh about POR, but Caribbean is a family favorite. We are probably going to settle into Caribbean for a while now that we have tried them all and have a favorite. :thumbsup2

We booked Coronado because POR wasn't available on the Spring Discount for our dates 6/6- 6/17. I made my ticker POR because I hoped we could change. I gave up hoping and booked under the Memory Maker package in a Royal Room. I am still hoping somebody cancels or upgrades their way out of a Spring Discount Garden Room as it was quite a cost difference.

I have stayed at Coronado before in February 2011 and enjoyed it, but we were in a building that is now business class. I want a real food court (Pepper Market just wasn't for me). I want the lushness of Riverside. I am living under stage 4 draught conditions right now. Ironically, my DD17 prefers the regular MB rooms. But I am looking forward to being Royal. Now I just need to buckle down and earn lots more Disney Dollars.

I read an article once that talked about the major effort that Disney puts into controlling mosquitoes. I don't know if it was in the parks or on the whole property, but it was pretty interesting. If I remember, they spray daily and keep chicken flocks to test for mosquito-borne illnesses. Crazy! Anyway, I'm sure if you Google "Disney mosquito control" you would find it. Of course, it could also be an urban legend.

I can't speak to summer...we go in October. But to be honest, I don't remember a single bug bite on any of my family members. And mosquitoes LOVE my daughter...and the bites get HUGE...so we would have noticed on her.

Hi eveyone,

I just wanted to ask a question about the boat service to DTD. I checked into the map of the docks after reading that the marketplace dock will be closed this summer. When I looked at the schedule of the boats and the docks. It only shows that the marketplace dock goes to POR. Do you think they will put the west side dock into the run? This seems like it will be a lot more traffic on the boats. This is sad because one of the big draws to POR is the boat to DTD.:(

Thanks.:)

I'm not understanding what you're asking. There will still be boats going from POR to DTD; they'll just be going to the Pleasure Island dock instead of the Marketplace dock. This post is from the POFQ thread:

From 22 Feb until sometime in the fall. In the meantime, the POR/POFQ boats will still run as normal but they will use the Pleasure Island dock in the centre of Downtown Disney.

Routes will be as follows:

• Port Orleans River Cruise – Yellow Route
Service between Downtown Disney Pleasure Island and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort

• Disney Vacation Club Ferry – Blue Route
Service between Downtown Disney West Side and Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Disney’s Saratoga Resort & Spa and Treehouse Villas

• Internal Downtown Disney Water Taxi – Red Route
Service between Downtown Disney West Side and Pleasure Island only

Andre

Hi

What I was asking is that when I looked up information on the ferry boat to DTD it was saying that only the Market Place dock is used with POR. With that being closed I didn't know if they were rerouting the schedule to other docks.

However, you have answered my question from what Andre posted. Thanks again.:)

I've got a question....does POR (and the other resorts and the theme parks) recycle??? Particularly plastic (bottles, lids, etc)??? I am a huge recycler and hate to see those things thrown away :(

I thought they had separate receptacles for trash and for bottles, etc. Someone correct me if I'm wrong! :-)

Yes, they recycle and donate used soap, shampoo, etc. to "Clean the World" to be processed and sent to third world countries as new

Disney goes through all the trash throughout the entire resort and recycles a very large percentage (I forget what it is, maybe 80%) of it. I learned this on a backstage tour and they showed us the central receptacle that all the trash in magic kingdom goes to.

Awesome! (Well except for the persons responsible for sorting trash) Since recycling we have very little trash! LOVE recycling!!!
