Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

1. What buildings do you think Disney Sports Travel will put us in? Do not think we will be able to request rooms. I don't know really where, but maybe the all star one I would think.

2. Thinking by July2012 almost all the rooms will be newly refurbished, what do you all think? Where, not most of POR they should have three buildings I think done if I remember correctly.

3. Is this a good resort for kids or would CBR be better? Well Kids love the Ol Man Island and they all typically have an arcade. But CBR has a nice water park and beach theme going on. So it is up to you. Most of the moderates have similar amenities.

1. All star section? Do you mean for All star sports. POR or CBR doen not have all star sections do they?
2. I thought I read that the refurb should be done by August 2012, we will be there for July 2012 so I am just assuming, who knows.

3. I like the feel of both resorts, the only difference is POR will have queen beds and rooms with a trundle bed for 5 people. Our baseball team has many families with 6 or more, so I know they will probably need 2 rooms.

1. Oh no they dont have an all star area of POR. No sorry.
2. Yeah your right about the refurbs, but they are supposed to be finishing july 2012 but hope they stay on track. Some of the alligator bayou rooms wont be done from what someone said on here.
3. Well I believe after refurbs they may not have the trundle beds for 5 occupants anymore from what I gathered here. They dont allow 6 to a room as far as I heard from the front desk. So yeah they would need two rooms. But the five I just dont know. I think during this refurb they are all going to queen beds and that means out with the trundles.

If you read the Royal Themed Rooms information, it says "Princess Tiana welcomes you, etc".

Does anybody know if Princess Tiana visits the POR resort? My daughter can't get enough of "The Princess and the Frog" right now. If not at POR, how about sightings at the Magic Kingdom.

We haven't stayed at POR since 2008, but have been back every year since. We don't recall seeing Tiana in any of the usual "princess" locations. (Akershus for example).

Thanks for any info!

I think what they meant was metaphorically speaking she welcomes you with such a nice room and trinkets left behind by her (housekeeping). As to the Princess coming by the resort I don't know if that does or will be happening after the royal guest rooms are finished. Princess Tiana does make appearences in MK, we got her autograph and photos in the area behind Liberty Tree Tavern in Liberty Square area.

Also if your a verizon wireless droid phone, you can get Disney Mobile Magic app for free now from the market. It may even be available to all droid phones. It tells you where all the character meets are.

Correct, max occupancy is 5 and 5 people will be placed in AB. They are going to all queen beds from what people have heard (not really confirmed, but assumed based on POFQ refurb), but it doesn't necessarily mean out with the trundles. There would still be room for them. There is a rumor going around that they are doing away with POR trundles, but it hasn't been confirmed by anyone credible yet so I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Yes, if you go on Disney's website and book the royal themed rooms in the two mansion buildings, it is noted they have queen sized beds.

Yeah I cant wait til my family's stay in February. It looks like they will have just gotten finished with the royal guest rooms then so we will be the first family in there after refit. Yes Ill take tons of pics for you all when I am there.

Thank you.

Look! There's my chair!.....just to the left of the pathway, front row, toward the left hand side of the picture! I will be sitting right there in the shade in just 11 short days!

Just make sure you fax down a request for your towel to be placed there to hold the chair for you!:cool2:

They look like haunted!!! Just like New Orleans..

I would have liked to have a haunted mansion theme option. Maybe that's why I love the look of the new rooms and tombstone looking headboards so much.

I can see that too, not kid friendly though. They would be trying to go to sleep and some eyes glow from a painting or something lol. Would give a kid some nightmares.

All that I have been hearing from cast members who have connections within the resort (i.e. not the off-site Disney Rumours Center - sorry, Reservations Center) is that they are NOT planning to remove the fifth-person option from Alligator Bayou during the refits.

What they may be doing is to switch from Trundle Beds to another option though, possibly a pull-down bed of some sort.

It's not just a question of the size of the queen beds and the space left in the room, it's whether there is actually space underneath the beds for the existing type of trundle bed to fit. I really do hope they are going to replace those wonderful open log-hewn beds with something similar, but I fear they may go for the cheaper option and use a bed with a standard solid base like the rest of the resort.

Time will tell anyway, the first Alligator Bayou building (#36) is due to complete its refit around 11 November. I'll try my best to get some firmer answers from the resort when I'm there in two weeks time.
