Just my opinion, but...after seeing the new room pics- (thanks for posting) I agree, the POFQ rooms look way better. Granted the pics didn't show all the details- but the headboads? :scared1: And from what I could see of the bathroom sinks, there's not as much storage as the new FQ sink area with the large under sink storage area. Meh. And taking away the light dimmer switch  why would they do that?

I saw the POFQ rooms in Jan, when a friend stayed there, and they looked really upscale. I wish they had the same contractor/decorator.

But I'll see, hopefully first hand in 11 more days  I think it's still the most beautiful grounds of the moderates, and most of the deluxe resorts.
Guess I was just hoping for similar to the classy FQ rooms.

It truly is beautiful at POR.

Sons baseball team will be possibly participating in the Rawlings International Salute to Baseball at ESPN. Our hotel options are: All Star Sports, Carribean Beach or Port Orleans Riverside.

1. What buildings do you think Disney Sports Travel will put us in? Do not think we will be able to request rooms.

2. Thinking by July2012 almost all the rooms will be newly refurbished, what do you all think?

3. Is this a good resort for kids or would CBR be better?

Any advise would be great!!!!

There is no way of knowing what buildings the room assigners will place you. I have been at POR for Pop Warner and they were all over the resort.

I would think that if you are going after the completion of the refurbishment, most likely you will be paying for the new categories of the Princess Themed rooms; maybe given a choice of them or a standard room? I have no idea.

Both CBR and POR are good for kids, both the same size and layout type, both have internal bus service. I would go with the theming that you like best.

2. Thinking by July2012 almost all the rooms will be newly refurbished, what do you all think? Where, not most of POR they should have three buildings I think done if I remember correctly.

3. Is this a good resort for kids or would CBR be better? Well Kids love the Ol Man Island and they all typically have an arcade. But CBR has a nice water park and beach theme going on. So it is up to you. Most of the moderates have similar amenities.

Whoa!!!!! Hold the Horses!!!! POR has an internal Bus Service? That is wonderful!!! I was foolishly under the impression that there was not an internal bus service.

Yeah I agree with you also. But They would not give away themed rooms for free or discount if that was what you meant. Youd have to pay the difference. But if you want themed rooms CBR has Pirates of the Carribean themed rooms, depending on how old the boy is and his team.

Ok so this year we are trying CBR. I think next year a royal room will be in order. Will the new royal rooms have queen beds also? I will say I'm not to impressed with the new rooms in the mansion section at POR. The decor just looks off.

When we stayed we were in the AB section and I think if we were going to go standard I would request to be in AB.

I think the sink storage area will be much the same as POFQ (look at the 'dark' photos, not the 'light' ones which we think are of an Accessible room).

The only reason I can think of for removing the dimmer switches would be to allow them to use cheap low-energy bulbs, which don't work properly with standard dimmers.

No, by July 2012 almost the whole of POR will be complete, with the exception of the last couple of Alligator Bayou buildings.

Whoa!!!!! Hold the Horses!!!! POR has an internal Bus Service?

Not really, no. There is no official internal-only bus. However as the buses usually go from the South Depot round the other three depots before heading off to their final destinations, you can just hop onto any bus and check with the driver that they are going that way, then hop off at a later stop.

That said, remember that unlike CBR and CSR you can walk straight across the middle of POR (i.e. over the bridges and across the island) so you don't have to walk all the way around a lake.

Yes, if you go on Disney's website and book the royal themed rooms in the two mansion buildings, it is noted they have queen sized beds.

I have to agree with you; at first, I "assumed" they would be in the AB rooms, since they are a little more "rusticated." I was quite surprised they lacked the ambience of the POFQ rooms, which I think the mansions should be on the same scale.

As a construction manager, I was hoping maybe the plumber just finished the undercounter work and they are waiting for the carpenter to come back to complete the doors. I fear that is not the case.

I am hoping we see more brighter pics as the weeks go on.

Yeah I cant wait til my family's stay in February. It looks like they will have just gotten finished with the royal guest rooms then so we will be the first family in there after refit. Yes Ill take tons of pics for you all when I am there.

Yeah I agree with you on the ability to just cross the river. I have to say that steered me away from the CBR as the main reason. Plus themed rooms seemed too far from food court and main bus depot.

My trip to POR is getting very close now. Just 11 days and we'll be there! I'm hoping for a room by the river in Oak Manor.....I can cope with double beds for this location. With a bit of luck and pixie dust, I will get everything I have requested....paid for river view, requested Oak Manor/top floor/outside corner room if available/non-connecting. I realize that I likely will not get all that I have asked for, but it never hurts to ask! I am getting so excited!

Just to give you an idea what we have been dealing with here this "summer"....

We just got back from a weekend at the beach but it is a completely different experience here than in Florida....the wind was northeast blowing at 80 kph (approx 50 mph), temperatures were in the 50's - had to wear full rain gear with rubber boots and all:eek:, the waves were pounding on the shore, and if you got your feet wet they cramped up since the water was so cold:eek:. I do have a couple of beach days scheduled in Florida and I am truly hoping for a completely different experience;).

Off to go home to "break" the news to my neighbor that we both got free dining on our packages; they will be so thrilled.

Fifteen weeks for us.....

Boys will be 12 years old. They are probably not into the themed rooms too much. A bunch of them like to fish, so POR seems to be fitting for that.

Very cool, Glad for you and your neighbor. I cant wait for the discount codes to come out as we get closer to 2012! May end up moving to the poly!
