Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

Love the pics of the refurbed room - love the murphy bed with the pic of the croc - I think if I stayed there, I would most likely leave the bed down all the time.

I like the number on the side of the "crate": LHMC101971
I get the 101971 part. I'm still working on what LHMC means. It's probably something obvious...

Not sure on the LHMC bit either. I like the "Acadian Company" wording on the washboard propping up the sinks too. Trying to read all the writing under the bed too, "Willie Inc" and a steamboat picture, plus a stamp of "AB" and what looks like maybe 2292? I really hope it is 2292, because that would refer to the opening date of the Alligator Bayou phase of Dixie Landings on 2nd Feb 1992.

I suspect there's going to be a lot of fun detail to find when more closeup photos start appearing, loving it so far!

In general... is there a section of the resort that is considered more popular as far as room location requests? We would be looking for 2 rooms.. one for my family of 4 and one for my parents. My thinking is that we would more likely be placed in the mansions, because they probably try to keep the AB section open for families of 5. Is that logical thinking, or is it completely random? We would like rooms next to each other, but our biggest concern is close to the food court and bus stop for my dad. He has some mobility issues.

I see on the first post of this thread where Andre talks about room requests it says something to the effect of "Disney doesn't guarantee room requests except for certain medical grounds". Does anyone know what would be considered a medical reason why they might be more likely to honor a room request?

You can go over to the disabilities board and they have a number where you can call and request a room closest to the main building due to mobility issues.

However, if they are busy that week, you may be separated into different buildings. It doesn't guarantee you will be close to each other. I would decide what is more important; making your parents more comfortable or being close to each other.

You can also "link" your reservations, which means you are traveling together and the room assigner will attempt to at least get you in the same building.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I said i didn't care where we stayed... now i sooooooo want an AB refurbed room! (LOL @ me)
i know i'll be happy anywhere, but dang, that would be awesome!!!
Thanks for the pics beth and andre... great teamwork! :)

bethjones Thank you for your review.

We are leaving in 6 days!!!! for POR and am really excited for our first stay on Disney property. We're a family of 5 and this was the most economical of any resort. We paid for a preferred room but now I'm REALLY hoping that Bldg. 36 will be complete on time so that I can be one of the first to stay in a refurbished room for 5! I didn't think this was possible when I booked. This is the only refurbished bldg so far that will accommodate 5, correct? Is this possible and how do I make that request?! Should I call the resort directly or Disney central reservations?

You can never call the resort directly; you can only indicate a request on your reservation. So if you call CRO directly and indicate you want a refurb room, but you already paid for preferred, I don't think you will be able to change at this point. Especially since you are leaving in 5 days and the reservations have been transferred or are in the process of being transferred to the resort for room assignments. It happens three to five days before check-in, depending on how busy the week is.

Bethjones - thank you so much for those. I was quite surprised to hear they gave you a tour, lol.

I LOVE that the bed is not a trundle on the floor anymore!!! I always hated the thought of my little ones so close to the floor and right by the door.

Will there be any drawers in the room? We did use those ... but you can't have everything! LOL

ETA: just read what you wrote about very little drawer space.. like I said you can't have everything... oh well...

Hi All, We have never stayed at POR, so don't know much (really anything) about it. Looking for a bit of clarification on the AB rooms that sleep 5. The 5th bed is only for a child? An adult could not fit?

I agree but where did the storage for clothes go?

Believe or not, but in shipping LHMC means Long Haul Mileage Calculation. Since it has the appearance of a shipping crate....... probably not that literal????

Last heard Mickey comment?

Wait, wait, wait, Little hidden Mickey character. :lmao:

Thanks everyone. So many nice people around these parts. Funny to think about all the people from all over the country/world that enjoy the simple things like the Port Orleans Riverside Resort. That last photo was Alligator Bayou to the left. Now that I think about it we were coming back from the mill from having breakfast. I have several shots of the river and walkway. I really enjoy walking the path and taking in the scenery. Different times of the day provide so many beautiful moments. I love to shoot at twilight. I think most photographers call it the "magic hours" of shooting. So with that being said I am going over some of the shots I passed on the first go round. If I have any duplicates along the way I apologize in advance. Congrats on those with trips upcoming. Chicago Mo I hope you have an awesome time! Bring home some photos for us!

Thank you KCmike!!! hope/pray to get some good shots...

Great pics! I like the fold-down bed but OMG the lack of storage in those rooms is going to be tough to deal with as a family of 5 staying a week+.

I see what appears to be two small drawers and a cubby attached to the fridge.

I am wondering if the three doors under the murphy bed are drawers or doors that open. Drawers would make more sense to me (being an architect).

I would call the resort number (934-6000). Calling CRO was a waste of my time. I just tried to add my requests by calling CRO and the guy said he couldn't even see my reservation b/c I had booked through AAA. I KNEW I called ahead on our last trip to add my requests and had no issue. So I tried the resort number. The nicest lady answered the phone and had no problems attaching my requests (Magnolia bldg, bed rails) to my reservation. I have already done online check in. I did this last year at Pop and got my requests. They even told me when I checked in that my room was not yet ready b/c they were holding one for me with my requested king bed. So fingers crossed, but it worked for me last year!

I'm not sure about the drawers under the fold down bed. After I got home I realized I hadn't opened them and now I'm not sure if there is just one large drawer or only a center drawer-if it even has a handle. I was so shocked the hard hat man let me in I was just snapping pix as fast as I could before someone shoed me out of there!
The bed would not sleep anyone over 5 feet tall, and possibly 4 feet tall. But it is a good width. I got out my tape measure today and I believe the whole fold down thing is 5 feet long. You have to allow for the mattress not covering each end so maybe the mattress is about 4 feet 6 inches. If you are a side sleeper with your legs bent I think a 5 foot tall person could handle it.
It didn't look like this building would be complete for at least 2 weeks but I'm not a construction person!

You actually aren't calling the resort; you called a Central Call Center that pulled up your reservation and added your requests.
