My family will be traveling to POR this October for 9 nights staying in a Preferred room. I am just curious what type of requests I should make. I was thinking about asking for Building 18 near the quiet pool for convenience to the pool and the laundry services. Just curious if this would be a logical request or if there are better ones to make. Thank you for your help as this is the first time we have staying at this resort and very much looking forward to it.

We stayed in building #18 two years ago (before the preferred moniker was attached to it) and loved it, as it seemed perfectly located to everything. We are going down again this Nov/Dec but will take what they give me in the AB section as I won't pay for preferred, not worth it for us, imo.

Hello!
With just a few days until we leave, I have a question that I have been meaning to ask...we are booked in a RGR, garden view. I have put in a request for Oak Manor, close to the bridge to the lobby. So my question is, if we are put on a floor other then ground, are there multiple access points, or may you only access upper floors through the lobby/elevator area? Just wondering if I should have reworded my request in some way. Thanks! Can't wait!

Are all the rooms at Riverside 'motel style' with the room doors directly connecting the the outside?

Mostly bumping to move from page 3  but thought that maybe someone may be able to offer some advice on my room request as stated above. Thanks!:goodvibes

We just returned from a brief, but delightful, trip. We were booked "waterview" and had requested Magnolia Terrace or Acadian House. We got Acadian, first floor, room 8078. Wonderful location, terrible waterview. We took pictures of the trees and bushes outside the door and ended up being comped the difference between water and garden. We'll be at POFQ in 3.5 weeks!

We will be staying at POR in October in a perferred room (family of 5). We are trying to decide between building 14 and 18. I like that 14 is closer to the restaurants/buses, but I also like that 18 has no parking lot views.

As you say 14 is marginally closer, but there's really not much in it. 18 (and 27) are also very nice locations. 18 is probably closest to the quiet pool, but it really depends on what room you are given (the 8 rooms which face directly toward the pool come under the Water View category).

But doesn't have the crazy eye catching theme that my 8yr girl would like.

LOL, you're quite right there. But that's one of the joys of Port Orleans, the Disney element is much more subtle and not so gaudily "in your face" (or sometimes over your head in the case of the Values :) ). But the big icons are really pretty much all there is to the Values (apart from AoA of course) and Port Orleans has a lot more going for it. I think your kids will love all the extra things they can do at Port Orleans far more than having a giant Rubik Cube outside the window (which if you don't show them, they won't even miss anyway).

So my question is, if we are put on a floor other then ground, are there multiple access points, or may you only access upper floors through the lobby/elevator area?

There are stairways all around the building, and lots of access paths meaning you can easily walk in from any direction. It makes it quicker to get to rooms, and also tends to thin the crowds out so you don't get everyone walking along the same corridor past your room.

AoA has indoor corridors in the suite buildings only, the standard room buildings are laid out exactly like Pop Century (in fact, they were going to be the second phase of Pop Century when the structures were first put up).

We just returned last night from our WDW vacation (May 26-June 3). :sad1: Sad to leave!

on Saturday the 27th (this was the state of the lobby upon check-in):

Lovely pictures, and it's great to see the progress in the lobby day by day - from the white dust sheets coming down, to that great new chandelier going up.

Loved hearing about your daughter's pixie dust moment too, I love that sort of thing about Disney.

[By the way, if anyone would like to post their Port Orleans related trip reports over on portorleans.org too, that'd be lovely. It's fine if you want to just cut'n'paste from your existing text to save re-typing. For some reason, I get quite a few questions asked over there, but not so many visitor reports after people return, and I love to read about people's own experiences]

We are leaving in three days and arriving at POR in seven days. I haven't packed one thing and I don't think the next 66 hours are enough to pack for five people and sleep and work. I really am going to need this vacation.

I think it's the prettiest 'motel style' RESORT you'll ever stay at. I've stayed deluxe and moderate and if the corridors are the reason for anyone's decision on where to stay, let me suggest this....I'd rather the beautiful, meandering lush paths over a long corridor any day. I hate it when the mods are referred to as 'motel style' . It couldn't be farther from the truth really.

Have a wonderful time! I am sooo jealous! We go in Feb/Mar and it feels years away right now! Think of your favorite thing in WDW and picture it when you're up at 2am packing! :lmao:

Thank you for the encouragement. I hope the months till you are ready to pack fly by. Then slow down long enough for you to get all of your packing done without having to rush.

Hi - we booked a garden view royal room, the only request I asked for was Oak Manor because it looked closer to the main blgd and main pool. Do I need to add "close to main bldg or main pool" &/or should I make any other requests? TIA :)

"Close to main building" should do - always best to keep it simple if you can.

Could not agree more.

Plus according to the Unifficial Guide, tge mods are actually quieter than the deluxes thanks to the weather stripping on doors that open to the outside world instead of a boring old corridor. :)
