OK, über-geeky question here... but in this photo of a standard (i.e. not Disability Accessible) Royal Guest Room borrowed from the excellent AllEars...

RoyalRoom13.jpg

... could someone confirm whether that entrance doorway recess modification has been applied to other Royal Guest Rooms too? All the photos I've seen so far have been facing into the room, rather than towards the entrance door.

I know they've done this for the new style Disability Accessible rooms (to allow more space for access around the new queen beds) but I'd have thought it would have been a pretty major (and costly) undertaking to have done it for the whole building...

[Edit] In fact, if you look at the ceiling on the far-left of this photo that I was sent earlier, this room is the same too:

Which begs the question, are all of the rooms like this (with more floor space!) and if so how do connecting doorways fit in with this layout?

Andre

Interesting. Wonder what it looks like from the outside as well?? Is it possible that there are no connecting rooms?

We leave Friday for 12 year Anniversary weekend. We stayed at Port Orleans for our honeymoon night!! I remember saying can't wait to have kids & send them down the serpent slide! So our 7yr old prince & 5yr old princess will be with us for some of the mini getaway, but grandparents are coming to take them for some disney fun without us! We are pass holders. First or second post on here. Love this site!

I was in a corner connecting room in Acadian House last year facing the parking lot.

Our beds backed up to each other (we both had queens) and the connecting door was on that side.

The recess was moved over the width of the open door, so the exterior doors were not exactly next to each other. There was a space in between them to accommodate the door(s). Since the ADA code states the doorway has to be at least 33 inches clear, the door is 36" wide (have to include the frame and stops), so it was above 6 feet inbetween the doors.

I found a picture on Andre's website of the exact location and the doors are somewhat apart.

How exciting! And what great ages for a first visit! I look forward to hearing about your trip! :)

We reserved for Sept RGR, 2 rooms, the reservationist told us there are connecting RGR rooms and requested them for our ressie. Hope it's true.

It's not their first visit to Disney just first time to this Resort! My patience paid off to have it be a royal affair for all of us! LOL I am very excited!

From the outside, the wall would be just 'flat' without the shallow recesses from the walkway outside each room:

Here's an example outside two new French Quarter Accessible rooms:

Versus this sort of arrangement elsewhere (this 'patio shot' :) is from Alligator Bayou):

With all this Royal news over the weekend, I forgot to re-post tomorrow's other resort news here! This one is a nice 'first' for Port Orleans, beating even the Deluxes.

From http://www.portorleans.org/tv.php:
The in-room cable television channel line-up is being expanded across all of the World Disney World resort hotels, and Port Orleans is scheduled to be the first to get the new services on Tuesday 13 March 2012. The other hotels will follow over the next two months.

Guests will receive a letter in their rooms the night before the change telling them that sometime between 10am and 3pm there will be a brief television outage of roughly 15 minutes, and after that time the new channels should be available.

Some of the new channels include Fox News, Bravo, AMC, National Geographic, TBS, TNT, Travel Channel, WE TV, Syfy, Discovery, Bio, HGTV, TLC, History, Food Network and TV Land. Local affiliate channels (ABC, NBC, etc.) and Disney resort hotel-specific channels will still be available. Channel 17 will contain a full list of the new services.

If anyone staying at POFQ or POR over the next day or two could have a quick look at channel 17 and let us know when the change happens, and perhaps note down the new channel lineup, that'd be great (just take some readable photos of the info screens rather than copying it all out!)

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the photo. So does all of Oak Manor look like that now? Kinda takes away some of the character...however, more floor space is lovely!

I don't suppose anyone knows yet if the Pop Warner kids are going back to POR this year? We wanted to book a 2 weeker but one of the weeks was that one and I'm wary of staying at POR then.

Hahaha the second pic shows chairs outside. I have never seen chairs outside in our three years there.

It looks like Disney did a great job designing a room that appeals to both girls and boys. I'm curious to know how the LED headboards work. Is there an on/off switch, or is it just a button you push once and it runs for a certain amount of time?

Yes, there is a gold button on the side is each headboard that turns the display on. They run for 30 seconds, and then turn off automatically. We've been using them as night lights to check on my youngest in the PnP.

The pictures of the princes' profiles, and their inclusion in the larger picture with the princesses definitely makes it feels more inclusive for the boys.

So good to hear! Do you think there is room for a blow-up bed on the floor at all? Have a wonderful trip! :)

Thank you, we are taking a little rest before heading out to DTD.

It would be tight with an air mattress. You would have to move the table and chairs over by the door, and then would be blocking your exit path from the room. Others might have a different opinion, but even with a pack and play we are finding it a bit crowded.

Glad you are loving it! What view did you book and where in Oak is your room located?

We booked a river view, and really lucked out as we ended up in a corner room on the second floor. It is nice to have the second window, it really brightens up the room :)

Have a great trip!! I would be curious to know what the crowd levels are like at the parks while you are there?? We are arriving the 28th and I am a little bit concerned about the crowds.

We were at MK yesterday in the rain, not very busy. Today when we arrived at Epcot around 10:30 we were surprised at how few people there seemed to be, however by the time we left at 3:30 the park was much busier. We've been here at this time 2 years ago, and it seemed busier then. Having said that we come frequently, and our boys are still too little for the major attractions, so we have different touring plans. Maybe others can provide more input....

Thanks for all the photos and information!

HotdogDncrs - have fun :wizard:

Andre - I've gotten so much great info from your site. THANK YOU

Only 5 more days until we check into our Royal Room!

Andre, our room has not been modified this way. The door is still on an angle with the jet-in into the room. Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the info, I thought it wouldn't be all of the rooms. Perhaps the one in question in Deb's post was NEXT to an Accessible room, and thus needed to have the same wall/door configuration?

Don't forget to gets lots and lots of pictures of all the details (including the new coffee maker :) ) before you leave! Have you found the Hidden Mickeys yet, there are several shots of where to look for them in the AllEars photos.

Oh, and watch out for the new TV channels appearing tomorrow....
