Ok so we called Disney about free dining. The CM tried to get us free dining with our RR but it was a no go...however the CM told us we could switch to a non RR room queen bed with free dining and then upgraded us to the deluxe plan. We ended up saving $500 by doing this. We asked that we get queen beds and close to main building. While the RRs are nice its much nicer saving $500.

so after reading through the posts it looks like a couple of people have mentioned that they didnt qualify for free dining in royal room. im booked for royal room in sept/oct and was banking on getting free dining (hopefully when offers come out in march). did anyone hear anything about the royal rooms not qualifying for free dining? i would probably change rooms if the royal room doesnt qualify. thanks Jenn

We are booked in a Royal Room with free dining on March 26-31 so it can be done!

We asked that we get queen beds and close to main building.

Do remember that those are only requests, not guarantees. Also, the closer rooms to the main building (other than Preferred Locations)would currently be most likely to get you a non-refurbished room in Alligator Bayou (i.e. doubles rather than queen beds). A Magnolia Bend room from mid-March onward would ensure queen beds, but could also be a slightly longer walk depending on where in the building you are.

Did the CM really say he could switch you to a non Royal-Room with guaranteed queen beds in March? They really just don't learn at the Reservations Center do they?

Make sure to remind them that no one will be put out. Everyone will get what they booked or better and not to worry.

lol yeah I know! We decided at this point it would be ok if we got doubles...one of us will sleep with our 5 yr old. If we end up with queens and further away thats ok too....what matters is that we saved $500.

From the back of AB to the main building it is at most 1/2 mile,

I think I once measured the furthest walking distances from any room at POR to the food court doors to be about 500 yards (on Google Earth one time when I was very bored... :) )

Andre

We are staying at POR at the end of March. We are a family of 5. I've asked for a refurbished room. Of course, I have no idea if we'll get it or not. My question is...is there a privacy curtain of some sort between the vanity area and the bed area (like at CSR)?

Then that only makes it just over a 1/4 mile. No wonder it is just a nice stroll:)

Yes there is a curtain, plus you get 2 sinks compared to 1 at CSR, 1 for my DW and the other for me and our 2 DD's:rotfl: portorleans. org has some photos.
6 weeks for us:yay:

20 years ago today, the first section of the new Dixie Landings resort (the Alligator Bayou lodges) opened to the public. That hotel is now better known to us as Port Orleans Riverside of course.

If you're there today, don't forget to pop along to the lobby early and pick your free birthday cake while it lasts.

Andre

We stopped by the lobby today, green and white balloons everywhere and some beautiful red velvet cake, very yummy.

Just booked POR for October. We booked a royal room :goodvibes We stayed at POR a few years back and loved it but decided to try a few different resorts. This time we are back to POR! :lovestruc

Happy Birthday (belated) POR :goodvibes It was so nice visiting - we just couldn't stay away, so had to go have my fav Pasta, along with a walk around resort, then over to FQ. Took boat to DTD. We sure lucked out with the weather this Jan, a balmy 80 :thumbsup2

From the back of AB to the main building it is at most 1/2 mile, it took me about 10 min at a normal pace from building 36 to get there. We have been there twice with our first DD when she was 3 and then again when she was 5, and none of us had any issues with the walk. We find walking around POR relaxing, and there were even a few times after a full day at the park we would get off at the main building and walk back to the room. The walk is very enjoyable and it helped us unwind from the day before we got back in our room. The only time we would pay for a preferred room is if my MIL joins us since she has issues with her legs. BTW, I am no spring chicken either:lmao:

I feel the same way as you. The walk around the resort is part of the experience. We have found we enjoy the moderates more than the deluxes and it is mostly because when you walk out your door, you walk into all that beautiful landscaping Disney does. Even when you walk out to a parking lot, you still see all the plants and trees. And it is always a nice little surprise to see some wildlife such as bunnies, squirrels and otters. Saw the otter at POFQ, but I figure if he was at POFQ, he might be at POR also. I've stayed at AKKV and BLT and didn't care for the walk down those hallways.

Just booked today for August.. so excited.. it will be out 4th time at POR.
