I just spent a week at Port Orleans-Riverside and thought it was a great resort. The landscaping is so lovely and it is so peaceful. If anyone has any questions,I will be glad to try to answer them.Disney withdrawals are now beginning to happen as I adjust to the "real" world.;)

How were the buses from Riverside? I'm thinking about booking Riverside for November and I just want to be sure that the bus trips aren't tooo bad from Riverside.

:earsboy:

Did you stay in the Mansion section?

I'm taking my parents (Dad 69, Mom 72) & DS (15) next year and am trying to pick between POFQ or POR (Mansion or Bayou). I've never been to either of these resorts (we've always stayed at an AS).

How far is the walking to food court & bus? I've read about some difficulty w/POR bus service due to picking up POFQ first. Did you use the bus to DTD? Did you see anyone fishing there?

Sorry for so many questions - glad you had fun - are you looking forward to your next trip??

Thanks for your help.

I personally preferred the Alligator Bayou section because of the lush landscaping. However, many people prefer the stately "mansions" with their beautiful gardens. The buses usually stopped at POFQ first and dropped off at POFQ first. However, during park opening and closing, they will sometimes run buses for each resort. There are 4 bus depots at Riverside that are picked up in a clockwise direction with the first stop being the South Depot just outside of the main building.I found the buses to be just fine without any real long waits.Of course,I just like being driven around for a week.I am sure there are times when a car would be quicker.I did not take the bus to DTD,but really enjoyed the boat ride.It takes about 20 minutes and stops at POFQ coming and going.I hope this info helps.:D

I forgot to address the distance from the food court question.I would estimate the longest walk to the food court would be about 8 minutes, but it is a beautiful, peaceful walk. There are wooded areas and wildlife to enjoy as you walk.I saw people pole fishing at the fishing hole on Ol'Man Island everyday.Beautiful resort-wish I was there right now.:earsboy:

Perfect timing for this thread as in just a few long days we will also be heading in that direction...VERY EXCITED!!!!:Pinkbounc
I will be travelling with DD 4.5 what can you tell me about Ol Man Island and the pools. Is the entry into Ol Man Island a gradual thing or are there steps like a pool? I know we will spend part of everyday there. Also jacuzzi?? How about the foodcourt selections? My mom 67 who is also going with us is looking forward to warm cinnamon rolls in the morning.:thewave: :thewave:

looks like we will be there around the same time. i can't wait. all i keep telling my dh is that the first thing i am going to do after we check in is go and get a cinnamon roll. they are yummy.

have a great trip. :D

The pool on Ol'Man Island does not have gradual entry, but there is also a small kid's pool right by the main pool. There is a jacuzzi right by the main pool also. There are also 5 "quiet" pools scattered throughout the resort that are open 24 hours a day.I am not a big food court person, but they do have a bakery in the food court where they bake fresh food each day.I am not sure of the selections.I remember seeing pizza, pasta, burgers, fries, meats and vegetables, etc.I also understand the restaurant next to the food court,Boatwrights,is very good.I think your 4.5 year old will really enjoy the ducks, rabbits, squirrels, etc. They are almost tame.I am SO jealous.;)

We leave May 20th for six nights and i am just about to burst. My students noticed that I have been getting a little bit giddy but oh my gosh...it's been 2 years since we were there last. I can't wait for DH and DS5 to go fishing. My favorite part is always the boatride to DD...so relaxing! :earsgirl:

Was there a campfire program in the evening? I thought I remembered someone saying there was in a post a while back, but I don't remember for sure.

Thanks! We can't wait for our first visit there later this year. It looks like a beautiful resort!

No,they did not have the camp-fire program during my visit.I don't know if they have discontinued it permanently.I would suggest calling POR directly a few days before your visit and ask.Are you going to request the Mansions or Alligator Bayou?I liked AB best, but they are both beautiful.Best wishes for a great trip.:earsboy:

I am using DVC points, and I believe they booked me in the AB section.

I didn't really care where they put us because we have never been there before and just want to see the place. We are moving to Wilderness Lodge the next day, we are only at POR for 1 day because the Villas at Wilderness Lodge were full for July 4th and we needed a place to stay that night (and decided to check out POR). We do not plan to go to the park that day, just want to stay and enjoy this beautiful resort and maybe take the boat to DTD for dinner or something.

Too bad there is no campfire program, we thought that would be a fun thing to do in the evening, but I am sure we will find plenty to keep us busy.

Thanks! If you have pictures to post, please give us the link. I would LOVE to see them!

We leave in two days! I know you stayed in the AB section but could you tell which mansion houses were currently closed for rehab? Thanks.

Geniegirl,
I was just there two weeks ago. The safe has a key and is about three inches deep. It was big enough for my cell phone, camera, extra cash, and our travel documents. I don't know why I feel the need to keep e-tickets safe, but in they went. I guess it's a throwback to the days of "don't lose your plane ticket"!
It wouldn't hold a video camera (unless it was TINY) or a laptop, but it would hold a PDA or gameboy.
Have a great trip!

If I remember correctly, the mansion currently being refurbished is Magnolia Terrace. It is the first mansion as you go clockwise around the resort. It is the mansion closest to the North Depot.:earsboy:

Thanks for the great info! We will be at Riverside shortly and I can't wait!!!!

Sounds pretty kid friendly at the pool. How are the slides? Do they serve snacks at the pool bar? What building in AB were you in? We have requested Bldg 18 or 27 but I'm sure they would make an adjustment if needed..

One final question, how were the crowds both at the resort and the parks? I'm starting to get nervous! I had thought this was early enough in the season to avoid huge crowds, but other posters are making it sound pretty full.

This post is getting me so excited! We leave in 12 days. Anyway, are there hair dryers in each room? If so, are they decent? I know that sounds silly, but my hair can take anywhere from 5-15 minutes to dry depending on the dryer!

Do they have coffeemakers in the rooms? I've seen conflicting info on this. We're going to POR June 13. I'm so excited. I can't decide whether to stay in AB or the Mansions, so we requested AB building 18 or Magnolia Terrace....I wonder if they'll be done with remodelling by then??

Also, are there hairdryers in the rooms?

Thanks for the information!

Corina
