Port Orleans French Quarter FAQ thread - Refurbished for 2011 - Now CLOSED

I am sure this has been asked and answered - but....

Is it easy to find your room/door at POFQ - or does it get confusing on the walkways and buildings?

Now to another question - should we decorate our room window to find our room better ?

We will be at WDW for the 4th fo July next year.

I found, on sale, a 4th of July hanging mobile.
I could hang it from the curtain rod or from a 3M removable hook above the curtain rod - so it hangs down between the window and the curtain.

We will keep our curtains closed for privacy for most of the time.

How would you hang decorations in your POFQ window ?
Are window clings OK to use ?

Does the maid-service remove window decorations during your stay ?
We will remove any hooks and decorations before we depart home.

No electic decorations. Maybe one of those small battery operated candles in the window, if we go out at night.

Any suggstions ?

We did not have any problems finding our room. There are only 7 buildings. This was our children's (age 9) first visit to WDW, and they found our room very easily once we were given our room number.

We were there during Halloween, there were some windows decorated, but I don't think it's necessary to find your room.

I hope this helps, enjoy your vacation!!!

This time next week we will be waking our girls up early and surprising them with a trip to WDW!! POFQ, here we come!!

Just finished a one week stay at POFQ, everything was wonderful, our room was ready when we got there, great housekeeping, three times we got towel animals, rarely waited for buses -usually one was there within 5 to 10 minutes, had one 15 minute wait due to an accident in front of MK, right after Wishes. Food was good, we did have an annoying wait at Raglan Road, our first night, but it turned out our pager wasn't working. The only problem we saw was uncorteous guests. The problem is one person can irritate 50 others. However, we meet lots of friendlly wonderful people too.

Checked into POFQ last night everything was flawless as usual. All our requsets were met. The new rooms are so pretty I love the beds and the dresser is huge, fridge is bigger too. All the cast members have been so friendly

It was 82 when we arrive the weather all week is sunny and warm.such a nice change from July with the humity.

We are at the BC now waiting to have dinner enjoying free wireless

DD went swimming last night said the water was gre off to dinner

Glad you had a great experience at POFQ. I hope you BCV stay is awesome too!

We stayed at POFQ for the first time last December, got on of the first renovated rooms so nice! We were in building 7 with a river view first floor. I loved that room so nice and quiet and the view was awesome! I would love to stay in the same area next time. How should I request the room, I just got lucky last time.

How should I request the room, I just got lucky last time.

Just let them know where you were staying before and ask for a room near there. If there was a particular feature about that location that you liked (e.g. ground floor, quiet location, etc) mention that too, because you probably won't get the exact same room and it'd be useful for them to know what you are looking for.

But do remember that requests are just that, requests, and cannot be guaranteed. River View is a bookable location now though, so for an extra $30/night surcharge you can at least be assured of a room overlooking the river.

Wow, I can't believe I just have read through 196 pages of this thread :P Didn't have any questions to begin with, but have plenty now.

This will be my very first time to POFQ and my boyfriends very first trip to WDW, and we're both really looking forward to it :) It's actually the first time I'll go on a vacation with a boyfriend. The dates is Sept. 3rd to 17th, to avoid the crowds and get the cheaper prices. Because we're traveling from the UK we were able to get an awesome deal:

  • $150 spending money
  • 14 day ultimate park tickets for the price of 7
  • Free Quick servise DDP for our entire trip
  • Preffered viewing of both Wishes and Illuminations
  • + a lot of discounts for dining in DTD and so on

And now to my questions, and there's a few  But as I've read through the whole thread, most of them shouldn't have been asked before. And the few who has, is stuff that is a little unclear to me as people have replied different on the same thing.

  1. When can you do online check in? As in how long before the trip?
  2. Is the hotel shampoo any good? My previous experiences from several years ago is that hotel shampoo is crappy, but maybe that has changed?
  3. I've seen a lot of people talking about adding pins and/or discount codes to make their trip cheaper. How/where do you get these codes?
  4. I've seen a ton of pictures of the resorts, but does anyone have a picture of the hot tub?
  5. I think I read somewhere that the hot tub closes at 9pm, is that right?
  6. I've read that you should leave a tip for mousekeeping every day (feels very guilty as I've never left any tip for mousekeeping before, I blame this on being Norwegian as tips isn't as common there). How much should I leave every day?
  7. I've read several posts saying you can request stuff like room close to food court when you check in online, but then someone also said you can't make any requests at all. What is true?
  8. Does anyone know how often they change sheets while you're there? Is that something you have to request for them to do?
  9. Can you attach more than one credit card to room keys? Ex. if I want to attach my cc to my room key, and my BF wants to attach his cc to his room key?
  10. Can you choose to have charge abilities on your KTTW and then pay cash for your charges at the hotel? (that way you won't have to carry too much cash in the parks)
  11. And this is for UK/international people: Is it usually expensive to use CC in the US, or is it better to have cash? Can't decide if it's a good idea to have charge abilities on my KTTW or not...
  12. Is it a good idea to buy MNSSHP tickets in advance? And is there a price difference if you do? I can't imagine they will sell out the sept. parties as it's still early...

I just got back a couple of days ago so I can answer a couple of your questions

Wow, I can't believe I just have read through 196 pages of this thread :P Didn't have any questions to begin with, but have plenty now.

  1. When can you do online check in? As in how long before the trip?
We got an email for Online check-in 10 days before we arrived.
  2. Is the hotel shampoo any good? My previous experiences from several years ago is that hotel shampoo is crappy, but maybe that has changed?
I had no problem with the hotel shampoo, but I may be an exception. There is no body lotion but I brought some from home so I didn't ask if they had any at the front desk
  3. I think I read somewhere that the hot tub closes at 9pm, is that right?
we saw people in here after 9:00
  4. I've read that you should leave a tip for mousekeeping every day (feels very guilty as I've never left any tip for mousekeeping before, I blame this on being Norwegian as tips isn't as common there). How much should I leave every day?We usually leave about $2.00 to $3.00 per day

  5. Is it a good idea to buy MNSSHP tickets in advance? And is there a price difference if you do? I can't imagine they will sell out the sept. parties as it's still early...Can't hurt at least this way you will know you are getting in. The tickets are open to the general public to buy not just Disney resort guests

hope this helps at bit.

I'll try and add a few too:

  1. When can you do online check in? As in how long before the trip?
    10 Days
  2. Is the hotel shampoo any good? My previous experiences from several years ago is that hotel shampoo is crappy, but maybe that has changed?
Some people don't like it, some think it's fine. It's H20 combined shampoo/conditioner. I rarely use it, but had no problems when I did (but I don't have a mass of hair!)
  3. I've seen a lot of people talking about adding pins and/or discount codes to make their trip cheaper. How/where do you get these codes?
They are sent randomly by Disney to past guests. If you have booked through the UK already though, that would probably be a confirmed booking (pretty much like a high-street travel agent booking) so I doubt you can adjust it now. Disney UK is NOT the same as booking with WDW directly in the states.
  4. I've seen a ton of pictures of the resorts, but does anyone have a picture of the hot tub?
    POFQ-Doubloon-2009-0631_forum.jpg
  5. I think I read somewhere that the hot tub closes at 9pm, is that right?
    POFQ-Doubloon-2009-9851_forum.jpg
  6. I've read that you should leave a tip for mousekeeping every day (feels very guilty as I've never left any tip for mousekeeping before, I blame this on being Norwegian as tips isn't as common there). How much should I leave every day?
It's actually not essential, it's a "tipping optional" position. However most people seem to leave around $1 per guest per night (leave it daily rather than at the end of your stay so the right person gets the money if shifts change, etc).
  7. I've read several posts saying you can request stuff like room close to food court when you check in online, but then someone also said you can't make any requests at all. What is true?
Make your specific requests in advance with your booking agent, the online system only has a few tickboxes you can select. You can also try calling or faxing the resort directly a few days before you arrive if you wish.
  8. Does anyone know how often they change sheets while you're there? Is that something you have to request for them to do?
It's certainly not daily - perhaps weekly or twice-weekly? You can request more often if you wish of course.
  9. Can you attach more than one credit card to room keys? Ex. if I want to attach my cc to my room key, and my BF wants to attach his cc to his room key?
Never tried, but I don't think so, I THINK it's one card per room.
  10. Can you choose to have charge abilities on your KTTW and then pay cash for your charges at the hotel? (that way you won't have to carry too much cash in the parks)
Yes, that's fine, you can pay off your room account in cash whenever you want. If you get to a $1,000 balance you'll need to pay it off before you can charge anything more though.
  11. And this is for UK/international people: Is it usually expensive to use CC in the US, or is it better to have cash? Can't decide if it's a good idea to have charge abilities on my KTTW or not...
Depends on the credit card. If you use the right card, it's much more beneficial than paying in cash. Most cards load about 2.75% commission or fees onto the daily interbank rate, which makes it cost about the same as the cash purchase rate. However if you use a zero-loading card then you'll get the prevailing interbank rate, which can save you a lot of money (in effect about a 3% saving on everything you spend). I use Santander Zero card, but the Post Office do one which offers the same deal. Why let the banks charge you when you could be spending that extra money yourself! (on a total charge of $3,000 for example, you'd benefit by around $100)
  12. Is it a good idea to buy MNSSHP tickets in advance? And is there a price difference if you do? I can't imagine they will sell out the sept. parties as it's still early...
Yes, it's a bit cheaper to buy in advance once you know your dates. As you say, it's very unlikely to sell out in September, but why take the risk? Oh, and use that zero-rate credit card to pay - again, why make a $60 purchase cost $62 if you can avoid it by simply using a different card? Aim for an early weekday rather than Friday/Saturday as it'll be quieter with less locals going.

Thank you so much for the replies :goodvibes

The post office has credit/debit cards? How does that work, can you open an account there?

Sorry for asking stupid questions, but I'm new to the UK so don't really know how everything works here yet :cutie:

4. I've seen a lot of people talking about adding pins and/or discount codes to make their trip cheaper. How/where do you get these codes?

I have to say that you are already getting a deal. :thumbsup2

Folks here in the states would love to be able to buy a 14-day ticket for the cost of 7 days instead of being told we would have to change our 10-day ticket to an AP at double the price.

Disney doesn't let us come at a cheaper price AND give us $150 spending money.

If we get free dining, room is at regular price.

Preferred viewing for Wishes and Illuminations isn't even a possibility for us without spending big bucks (or being the victim of some major mistake so they gift us with the preferred viewing). I would love to have preferred viewing, but I don't see that happening for me. Wonderful advantage for you! :)

Would love to know what your "so on" is. (Then again, maybe I don't, it will just make me jealous. :rotfl: )

I can tell you that you are making out much better overseas coming here than we do here stateside. You've got discounts and incentives beyond any PIN or discount code we would ever get. Disney really wants your business! :goodvibes

Oh, one other thing. Dates for MNSSHP 2012 haven't been released yet. It didn't start until 9/13 in 2011, so you may have a very narrow window to work that in to your plans.

Enjoy your planning!

And yeah I know the MNSSHP might be a tight one, but they usually start up mid sept somewhere, so I hope to make it. I could have made it on my previous trip in 2010 when I was there around the same time, but my friend didn't want to go :(

Those are nice perks! Some of them are included in the packages we here stateside are offered. And others (the DTD discounts) might be available folks who hold certain cards (AAA, Disney Reward Visa) but they seem to bundle everything up quite nicely for those who live across the pond. I want to hear about your preferred viewing when you get back.

I have to say that you are already getting a deal. :thumbsup2

Well, it's certainly a great package, but whether or not it's a deal depends on how much she's paying for it. It's hard to match up exactly, but I'm guessing it would cost about $6000 for that package (or at least the majority of it), without a room discount, and paying for the DDP.

I'd ask her what's she paying, strictly out of curiosity mind you, but I'm afraid that would be rude of me. So, I'll simply hope she got a great deal. :cool1:

I just returned from WDW last week and stayed at POFQ.

The newly refurbished rooms are wonderful! Everything is new, the furniture, wall covering, carpet, tile flooring, countertops, sink, shower, faucets, tv, and everything smells new.

I stayed at POFQ one other time and loved it, and now I love it even more.

We paid $5131 actually, and that includes the flight as well :)
