Port Orleans French Quarter FAQ thread - Refurbished for 2011 - Now CLOSED

I've just posted a 360-degree room view of one of the new POFQ refurbished rooms. For some reason it hasn't worked quite as well as the POR one I posted last week (which is odd, as it was shot in exactly the same way just half an hour later; same camera, same tripod and pano-head which we didn't even re-pack, same lens, etc). For some reason the perspective has come out a bit over-exaggerated though.

Anyway, it is available on my Guest Rooms page, or directly via this link: http://www.portorleans.org//images/panoramas/POFQ-Room-2011-3652-pano360.swf. Thanks again to David for his generous help in allowing me to take these photos.

Thanks, Andre! This really helps feed the addiction!:lmao:

What room is this? I want one just like this one - two windows. I don't suppose you know if the connecting door happens to lead to a king room?:rolleyes1

Thanks so much :thumbsup2

DD loved looking at all the photos for the updated rooms. Our last visit to FQ was last July. We are very excited to see the updated rooms in person in a liitle over 2 months :goodvibes

The POR panorama was taken in Magnolia Bend (in a Magnolia Terrace refurbished room). The POFQ one was of a top floor river-view room in building 2. Well, there would have been a nice river view if we'd kept the curtains open - but the light balance was all over the place that way. No idea what was on the other side of the connecting door, sorry.

Beautiful pictures. I hope we get one just like the one in Magnolia Bend! :cool1:

I called WDW and asked if we could have a cot in our POFQ room next year.
Our DS and DD are older teens and can not sleep together, nor would they.

WDW CM told me no cots allowed at POFQ now.

I asked about bringing a twin areobed with us - they said it would be an extreamly tight fit in the room.

What do you think ?

There are so many reasons why we like POFQ - We do not want to move to another moderate.

Thanks

We've done POFQ with 1 on the floor..................not an experience I would ever, ever want to repeat.:scared1::scared1: What about POR (we are die hard POFQ fans, but if it's more then me and DH we'd stay elsewhere) don't they have bunks or rooms for a cot?

Cots ARE available (as in Pack'n'Play cots, for infants up to about 3 years old) but it sounds to me more like you are asking about a roll-away fold-up bed rather than a cot?

Roll-aways have been available up until now but according to resort management recently, these will soon no longer be allowed due to the larger queen beds in all the rooms. This will apply to all of POFQ and also POR Magnolia Bend, the only section of the resort to feature an extra bed will soon be POR's Alligator Bayou.

A small inflatable mattress would be an option, but I would suggest a single not a twin [double]. Not sure if it would fit between the bed and the door, or whether you'd need to put it in front of the table/TV area.

We used a twin (same as a single-- maybe it has a different name in the UK?) air mattress at POFQ for 10 nights last month. It fit well between the bed and door, and we propped it against the wall during the day.

My dh had the mattress and pump in a small duffle for his carry-on so it didn't take luggage space or weigh down our checked luggage. We brought a fitted sheet from home, and got the rest of the bedding from mousekeeping.

Ah, sorry, another case of two nations divided by a common language. :)

Over here I would have thought twin means "two", hence suitable for two people.

They are called twin beds because they were usualy sold in pairs for kids room, or in the case of Lucy and Ricky for the bridal chamber.:rotfl:

Okay just realized, Have you seen the I love Lucy tv show? Back in the 50's all married couples on tv were shown with twin beds in their bedroom....after all we wouldn't want to show a national audience that married couples might actually sleep in the same bed.

;)

Yeah, we got I love Lucy over here too, many years ago!

I seem to recall that rule was related to the good old Hayes code, which stated that when two people were on the same bed, at least one of them had to keep one foot on the floor.

Does anybody know if ginger ale can be found anywhere in the resort (or POR)??? I'm possibly going to be pregnant when we go next month & would feel more comfortable knowing I'll have access to the things I need just in case morning sickness hits. I don't expect it to, but I'd rather be safe than sorry (REEAALLLLYYYY sorry, lol).

I taught early pregnancy classes/childbirth prep for years! Pack ginger snap cookies to bring along. Also the combination of lemonade and something salty (chips/pretzles etc...) is famous for helping with pregnancy related nausea. Good luck and early congrats!

You might want to think about placing a grocery order so you can get the specific brand that you like. I have absolutely no idea if you can get ginger ale anywhere on property though. And truthfully, I think it's pretty nasty out of a fountain. Places never seem to have it mixed right. :confused3

(And yes, I lived on that stuff when I was preggers!)

OK, so what are your opinions about the best building for a Riverview room?
I have RV booked.. not king.. just regular..
There will be no kids, and will not have a car.. The walk to the main building/bus stop isn't an issue, so distance doesn't matter..
We've been here before a few times. but I wondered if I am missing anything by nor requesting a certain building? :confused3

Thanks!

Traci :thumbsup2

Ah, I think I've fixed the problem. Ideally I needed to have shot a second batch of images angled slightly upward to fix the perspective issue, but I've pretty much dealt with it via software I think. Square things look a bit 'squarer' now anyway. :)

Before: http://www.portorleans.org//images/panoramas/POFQ-Room-2011-3652-pano360-old.swf

After: http://www.portorleans.org//images/panoramas/POFQ-Room-2011-3652-pano360.swf

I'm now happier with the second version, even if it's not quite as good as the POR one.
