DIS Unplugged has a review of POFQ from their trip, early Jan 2011. You can listen to it from the DIS main oage - scroll down to 2/16/11 - Port Orleans French Quarter.

So far they did not like their room (said it was very dirty and shower had a problem), check-in process(over 25 minutes long), the staff and management at POFQ were rude and did not pay attention to the guests.

They did not really like the POFQ food court - but they did like the pastries at the food court. DIS said the POFQ went down hill in 2011.

But - it may have been a bad couple of days when they went.

Have others had the same complaints and experiences that the DIS crew had ?

I have to say I heard it all the way through and I have never encountered anyone or any incident that comes close to what they were describing.

My personal opinion is that they most likely did have some issues, that the resort didn't take care of right away, but they may have escalated it a bit by their attitude as well.

I have to say, I am a construction manager. I always stay at POR and was there the week after Thanksgiving. They were in the process of doing one of the buildings at POFQ. I am a natural "sidewalk engineer" as they refer to it, so I walked over really early, when they were just starting work, with a bunch of beignets. I got a little tour of the construction (nothing had been completed yet), but they were doing a fabulous job. And a few CM's saw me and came over and chatted as well. I thought they were extremely friendly.

Things are bound to happen; Disney is a huge place and not everything is going to be perfect. But it sounds a bit to me like he might have stirred the pot a bit.....

Wahoo, just did online checkin for March 3rd arrival. I noticed that my request for "ground floor", was hardcoded into my reservation when I clicked on "room requests". We are happy, we have a King room and DH just needs ground floor for mobility issues.. In December we were assigned a ground floor room in bldg 1 close to parking lot. You could see our parked car from our hotel room window. If DH is happy, then I am happy.

My family will be staying at POFQ for the first time this spring and we are so excited! I have a question about STANDARD ROOM VIEWS, can anyone tell me if the majority of the standard room views are of parking lots? We have a few light-sleepers, so a little worried about parking lot noise, headlights etc. Not complaing, honest, just want to know if we'll need to prepare a little. Thanks!

Standard room views can vary, many are of nice internal courtyards or lawns. Ask for a room in buildings 2, 5 or 6 and there are NO parking lot views at all.

Thanks Andre!!! I didn't even know where to begin with building requests, now I'm fully prepared thanks to this thread!

When I stayed there in 2008, we had a Standard room and were in building 3, 3 doors down from the lobby facing the courtyard. We thought it must have been a mistake since we booked a standard but it was ground floor room so maybe that was why. We could see a little bit of the pool and courtyard areas but 3 doors down from the lobby/food was amazing. It was also in mid Sept so it could have very well been an upgrade but thinking we would be looking at a parking lot and what we ended up looking at was great if that was considered a standard room!

I listened to it all the way through, too. I enjoyed their review, and I appreciate being warned of the potential for problems. I am still excited about POFQ, though.

Most of the things that they described would not have been a problem for me. Twenty-five minutes sounds fine for check in. I love CSR, and I waited there for a lot longer than 25 minutes on my last trip. I just budget the time into my vacation plans, and if it doesn't take as long it's a bonus for me.

I have run into cast members at several resorts and all over the parks that ignore me while they have their own private conversations. It did not used to be that way, but it seems to be the way of the World (and of the world) nowadays. So now, I just accept it as the reality. Disney is much busier than it was back in the 80's and early 90's, and their customer service has suffered.

Also, whenever I have called for a request from housekeeping or maintenance, it has always taken a long, long time. I learned to budget extra days into my vacation, so I do not have to worry about losing time to fix problems. I am not in a rush to see it all and do it all, so it is not as critical for me if things go wrong. I have the luxury of time to fix them.

The one thing that they described that really would bother me is the dirty room. It sounds as though they had someone cleaning their room who was incompetent or did not care about his/her work. I have run into that at Disney before, too, at the CBR (2003), and it did ruin that resort for me. Although, I am tempted to give it another try again. Afterall, it was really only one person (the housekeeper) who let me down, and that is not a good reason to give up on a resort. But when you are confronting a dirty room, it sure is hard to get over it.

If it ever happened to me again, I would take the time and ask to be moved to another room. Again, I have budgeted extra days into my vacation so that I will not be disappointed on missing "park" opportunities while I am moving from one room to another. It is more important to me to get it right.

As for the food court, whenever I purchase something that is not good, I take it back after one bite and ask for something else. That's the only way the food court (or a restaurant) will improve. If everyone takes back the offending item, Disney will quickly figure out that they are losing money by not making it better in the first place.

It is sad, though. The thought actually crossed my mind that I should request (on my room reservation) for Disney to put me in a room with a really good mousekeeper, instead of close to the food court. I'm sure that they know who the good mousekeepers are and are not. How sad is that?

I would rather have a good mousekeeper than to be close to the pool or the bus stop. Maybe that should be the preferred room request--a clean room! Just kidding :lmao: but it does illustrate the critical nature of the problem.

Isn't it just amazing hearing reviews from people who stayed at the same resort, during the same time and had totally different reviews!? I think it is just luck! Your lucky if your room is ready early.... lucky if a bus is there or arrives right after you get to the bus stop.... lucky if it isnt too busy when you are in the food court or in check in. Lucky if you get a refurb room. Lucky if you get one of the BEST mousekeepers! On our past trip we lucked out on everything! I left LOVING the POFQ!!!! I hope all of you with trips coming up that you have good luck too!

:thumbsup2 Thanks! I couldn't agree more!

I also thought the same thing. I don't mind waiting 25 mins to check in. I think it's a part of the whole getting to WDW process! If I had kids it might be a different story but they don't have a TV for nothing. When we used to go as kids, my dad would check in and my mom would walk around with us and go to the gift shop!

I was not a bit nervous after hearing the review. We've had those problems at other resorts, both Value and Deluxe. You just gotta take it as it is and if you don't like something, request something new. We had a dirty room at Music, we requested another room and got one. We had bugs at POP, after waiting 25, we were given a new/clean room. If food was not cooked to our liking, we'd take it back.

We never schedule a park day on our arrival (unless our flight was super super early) due to the fact that DME, check-in, and room issues could happen. I get that for some families that they might have limited days but if you plan accordingly, use fast passes, baby swap, and do your research, it shouldn't be a problem! WDW isn't always the happiest place but they try!

Standard room - we have requested buildings 4 or 5 to be close to the bus stop.

I hope if it is a parking lot view there are some trees or bushes between us and the cars. DH is big on leaving curtians closed - even at the Dolphin on the 8th floor:rotfl:

About rooms & the DIS comments...my thoughts:
When we arrive in ANY hotel room we check...

:upsidedowthe beds for clean sheets and yes those nasty bed bugs

:upsidedowthen we run the water in the sink, flush the toilet, test the bathtub (shower head and drain ability)

:upsidedowlook under the beds, if it rises above the rug, open the drawers of the dresser, turn on the TV, see if the phone works, adjust and see how the AC/heat works

:upsidedow we then test the curtains, the view and count how many towels
we have

IF there are any problems, we do not unpack and we just walk to the front desk, calmly and have a little talk about our room or needs.
Maybe we get another room, or just have maintenance follow us to the room, or just to pick up the extra towels.

We do not wait till a problem arises, we are proactive.
Maybe that was the DIS crews error - that they did not check the shower until the next morning.

For Building 4, there are some very nice views of the trees/bushes/garden before you see the parking lot. On our stay in October we had started out in building 3 but due to the VIP cleaning done wrong we ended up having to move to a non VIP cleaned room in building 4. Both were very nice and we never had straight parking lot views.

As for the cleaning issue, for some people a VIP clean is requested and it is not always that easy to move to another room. I know in our case the room was quite clean but Mousekeeping left the carpeting soaking wet and it dried wrong causing my daughter to react and thus causing her allergies and asthma to flare. My daughter went from having the best pulminary function test in her life just shortly before the trip to struggling again in the matter of a 4 days (we will find out tomorrow what her pft looks like now but she is not back to where she was). We did change rooms after I talked to the manager but we had stayed in that room for almost 4 days.

I did email Disney after getting home so that no other family or child endures what my child did. It is sad that some families do end up with the bad service or bad cleaning experiences. Attitude also does play a role in how things are handled in my opinion. Treat people how you would like to be treated and it goes a long way.

Maybe that was the DIS crews error - that they did not check the shower until the next morning.

If I understood them correctly, the shower worked when they first arrived. It was the next day, after mousekeeping had been back to the room to clean, that they mysteriously found the shower handle in the soap dish. The only explanation was that mousekeeping (or someone) had removed it for some reason (did it break? was it to clean?) and then forgotten to put it back on the shower. Sort of weird....

We had a parking lot view in December but it had views of Magic Kingdom fireworks everynight from the balcony =)

Not all parking lot views are bad lol

Last time we were at POFQ we ended up pool view. Well more like laundry view but it was super close to the food court. That at the time was standard I guess since I never pay for a view.

Hi all! My family is staying at POFQ for our first Disney vacation in September! Super excited, of course!! I had a few rooms questions that I was hoping people could help me with.

We've got a direct flight that arrives at 10:35 a.m. on Saturday. Is it reasonable to think that we would be at POFQ and checked in by 12:00 or 12:30? I"m pretty sure we can't get into our room that early, but will we be able to get our Keys to the World? We will have some carryon bags with us from the plane. Do we put those in the ME bus or do we give them to the people at checkin, or what?

My other question has to do with garden grocer delivery. It is my understanding that we don't need to be at the resort to accept delivery. I would like to order water, snacks, etc. including milk and yogurt for my young son. Will this be a problem? Do I need to make sure that I am at the resort to accept delivery so my milk doesn't spoil?

I appreciate the help!

Thank you!

We LOVE PO-FQ and have stayed 5 times but our Nov trip may be the last time. It wasn't terrible but just not as magical for us. We didn't wait for check in or any other front desk usage. Our room was not properly cleaned each day like basics of wiping out sinks and vacuming. We aren't that messy but it was clearly not touched. We also only got toiletries restocked 3 nights out of 6 which was a PITA for sharing shampoo among 4. In the past we LOVED the food court. This visit they had way less options, fave entrees were gone, more prepackaged stuff for desserts, seriously off tasting bacon served multiple days even once we told them, and not enough staff so
Huge lines even when not that busy. We were also very irritated by huge waits for dtd boat service and bus service. The boat line back was well over 90 minutes at 8pm on a not busy at all park day so switched to bus and waited over an hour for a bus. Staff for kids activities were AWFUL. If they don't have decent staff they shouldn't offer the activities. We love the looks and size of the resort but not sure if we want to stay again unless they start putting more consistent effort into
creating a positive experience. We ate a meal at POR and my kids said they'd rather stay there now even if they had to walk more and stand on the bus....

Catching up on this thread - we are checking in 2 weeks from today! I haven't been here since Dixie Landings was in existence, so I'm hoping it still holds that same magical charm :)

Also keeping fingers crossed that we get a refurbished room for our family! :)

We took an early flight last September and got to POFQ around noon. Our room was ready so we just put our things in the room and headed off to the park. If your room is not ready, you can check your carry on in a bell services and pick it up when you return from the parks. If you are taking ME, your luggage will be brought directly to the room when it is available.
