Port Orleans French Quarter FAQ thread - Refurbished for 2011 - Now CLOSED

Sadly, it is all too common. I guess the main problem is the amount of people that Disney employs, some part-time and in multiple diverse locations, along with the way they try to keep sensitive information limited to "need to know" staff only. Did you know that Disney has not made a single official announcement to guests about the POFQ rehab yet, even though it is now finished?

Not even all of the staff located at POFQ itself know that their refurbishment is now fully complete, and once you start speaking to the call center staff (who, to be fair, could be asked questions about any resort, or even anything about the whole of WDW) then the quality of information gets worse.

What does annoy me most though is that not only are they often wrong, but they are so definitely and authoritatively wrong. If you didn't know any better, you would have believed the first person you spoke to - or at least the second one - as they are so adamant that they are right and you are wrong. And then some of them have the nerve to tell guests not to believe everything they see on the internet! They're quite right in many ways of course, as there is a lot of rubbish out there, but there's also good information if you know where to look... and in Disney's case, this is rather a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

However in this case, please be assured that ALL of the buildings POFQ have now been fully refurbished (the final one was re-dedicated on 15 April) and ALL the double beds have been replaced with queen beds. Work on Riverside has not started yet, but is due to start soon (dates are a bit unsure at the moment, possibly due to the recent announcement about the Royal rooms).

Thanks Andre. :goodvibes We have been wanting to stay at POFQ for a while now and we are all looking forward to it during our next WDW adventure. Thanks again for this thread!

My family will be experiencing our very first trip to WDW in September. VERY EXCITED!!! :cheer2:We are staying at POFQ, since it is a smaller resort and our DS (7) has special needs. My DH has left all the planning up to me. I did visit WDW in 1985 with my grandparents; but this is my DH and DS's first trip ever!! Ready for the MAGIC!pixiedust:

Let the POFQ rehab with new piant, rugs, linens and queen beds be the little secret of this thread :goodvibes - the rooms then will be less worn when we arrive June 2012 ;)

WDW can annouce the Princess Tiara rooms at POR and the new value resort rooms & suites across from Pop - even those new eco-friendly rooms in the Contemporary.

Keep POFQ our secret wonderful resort.

13 days and we will be at POFQ.... :dance3: 3 generations of silly disney world fans staying in a wonderful refurbished room!!!

Well, Thursday evening is here. (8.25pm uk time) I have no more work until May 17. Some wedding or other on TV tomorrow:) Then, Saturday a trip to Manchester followed by a flight on Sunday arriving at this fabled land of POFQ late Sunday afternoon (local time).

After what seems like an eternity, it is finally almost here.

How I need this holiday - if you see us say hi:thumbsup2 - just look for the English father and son combo - The old fella walks with his stick, whilst I'm the one avoiding burgers and fries and trying not to regain any of the 90lbs I just lost to get fitter for Florida lol.

Will probably not sleep for 2 nights in anticiption lol.

Do you think you're the ONLY person in England looking more forward to something other than the royal wedding? :rotfl2:

I just got this info in my Passporter Newsletter:

New Specialty Rooms At Walt Disney World Disney's Contemporary Resort will now feature health and wellness suites with bamboo flooring, 100% cotton sheets, non-allergenic wrapped mattresses, bathrooms with rainwater showers and tea tree oils, and in-room cardio equipment. The suites have views of the Magic Kingdom or Bay Lake. The suites include access to the Concierge Lounge and classes at the newly renovated wellness studio. Disney's Port Orleans will be adding 512 Royal Guest Rooms beginning in March 2012. The royally-appointed rooms feature ornate beds with fiber-optic-enhanced headboards and gold and crystal accents. The artwork and mementos in the rooms have been specially chosen by the Disney Princesses.

The new Royal Rooms are going to be located at Riverside, not French Quarter. See http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=40879570#post40879570 for the discussion.

Steve,

Good luck not gaining the weight back with all of that good Disney food:rotfl2: But the upside is all the walking you will do should help
with all the extra calories:thumbsup2

It's all right, calories don't count when you're in Disney World. Or so I've been reliably informed...

Keep POFQ our secret wonderful resort.

My dh always yells at me when I recommend POFQ to someone. He calls it a "hidden gem" and wants to keep it that way.

I can't help it........I love it there so much!!!

We really want to enjoy the parks, but staying at POFQ has me so excited about our hotel stay. Can anyone tell me what activities would be a must for a family at POFQ?

Does anyone know if there is still a spot for croquet? The last time I stayed there was in the early 90s and my mom had us all play a family game of croquet. DH and I are staying here in Sept. 2011 and while our kids will be mostly with their grandparents at SSR, they're going to be with us for 1 night and I'd like to play croquet if we can. If it's not there, then that's too bad!
