We will be cruising on the DVC Member cruise next August and I'm starting to look at booking a hotel near the port for the night before departure. I'm interested in the Hyatt Place Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port & Convention Center since I can use my CC pts to book. Has anyone stayed there before? Some reviews online are good, some are bad so figure I'll ask the Dis! Also, I saw that there is a Publix nearby which would be helpful to stock up on stuff that my picky toddler eats. Will I be allowed to bring packaged food items (no fresh fruit/vegs) in my luggage onto the cruise? It's been 10 years since we've been on a cruise and first one with a child. Thanks!

We are on that cruise as well and I'm considering the Holiday Inn Express on East 17th Street which is not far from the Hyatt Place.

Yes, you can bring on pre-package nonperishable snack food items.

Oh! I’ve actually stayed there! Almost 10 years ago LOL now that I do the math. But the location was great. Restaurants in walking distance and they had a shuttle.

We live in Central FL, so we might drive. Haven't decided yet. We could take Brightline down, but then we would need to pay for parking near MCO which would cost about the same as parking at Port Everglades. When you add in the cost of the train, it would be cheaper to drive. Could also pay to leave the car at the Holiday Inn Express for much less than at the port and take the shuttle over. Ultimately, I'll probably park at the port so we can go directly to the car and head back to the Orlando area without needed to wait on a shuttle.

Just did port Everglades and stayed in the Dania Point area at the SpringHill suits. I would choose this area again but the Hyatt house or Hyatt Place next time. They look newer and are a tiny bit closer to all the stores and restaurants. Tons of restaurants and stores in case you forget something. I know this is a different area than you are considering, it is still very close and easy if you are flying in.

We just stayed at the Hyatt Place in March. It has a little wear and tear but our room was clean and I love the set up of the rooms. We walked to a great Mexican restaurant in the same shopping area as the Publix which was really close. There were several other restaurants within walking distance in the area. I was actually able to see the ship out our room window, which was fun! (We were on the top floor.) It was a very quick Uber to the port.

Did you use the airport shuttle at all? Trying to figure out what the easiest way to get to the hotel and pier with my four year old in tow. He’ll be five next year so maybe I can use a travel booster seat for him and use ride share or a taxi. 🤔

No, we live in FL but it's several hours drive so we decided to drive down the night before and get a room.

We stayed there in March. It wasn't horrible but it's in need of remodeling. Little things like sofa edges looking a bit worn. It wasn't so old as to have tube tv. lol. Our room was clean and everything functioned properly. They offer a free buffet breakfast and the room where food is on display is a bit small compared to other similar hotels that offer this such as Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn, Spring Hill Suites, etc. There is outdoor seating too if the indoor area gets crowded.
At the time, I first felt like I wouldn't stay there again but we're cruising from PE again in April and will probably stay there again. We got a good deal using our cc points last time and hopefully will get that again.

Yes, Publix is a short walk from the hotel. We bought bottled water to carry on. You can carry on sealed, pre-packaged foods but no fruit or meat, IIRC. We only ever carry on bottled water and occasionally a bag of candy such as jelly beans or Swedish fish so I've never explored what else could be carried on.

There is an Italian restaurant next door to the Hyatt called Mezzaluna. The menu looked expensive and we weren't looking to splurge so we walked one more property down and ate at the Outback Steakhouse. At no time in our walks to the Outback and Publix did I feel unsafe.

Friends of ours joined us at the last minute (surprised us at our home airport gate) and they stayed at the Renaissance and really liked it. It was close enough to the port that in the morning, they took a walk down to the port just to see the ship while passengers were disembarking.

One more thing. Unlike most hotels close to the airport, this Hyatt Place does not offer free shuttle from FLL to the hotel. I had looked at several hotels for different trips and for some reason, I thought the website said it offered free shuttle. After waiting a while, I looked around the website and couldn't find anything so I called the hotel and was connected to someone who offered to book a paid shuttle. I'm not 100% sure of the charge, I think around $12 or 15 pp. I declined and decided to Uber. In the 20 minutes we wasted dealing with all of that, it felt like 5 more planes landed and the pick up area became much more crowded and the Uber price went up by a lot, making the shuttle the better deal. I should have just Ubered as soon as we got our luggage.

Me, I would Uber vs. their shuttle. It looked like a lot of people standing around with luggage waiting and our Uber driver was there in less than 5 mins. It's only a 1 mile drive to the port.

@ruadisneyfan2 Thanks so much for the tips and info on the Hyatt. Can’t beat spending 12,000pts for the night there. If it’s clean, it’s good enough for us.

Looks like Uber it is to get around! Was it hard to get an Uber from the port back to the airport? I’m so used to having a car service take us to/from the airport/hotel. Our last cruise was also on the Dream but it left from Port Canaveral. Definitely different with how close this port is to the airport/hotel.

Not hard to get an Uber at all. We have done that in PE and PoM. It's so easy. For PC, we've always had pre-arranged car service or DCL transfers because it's a much longer drive.

We are in the same position. No matter how I work the numbers it just makes more sense for the two of us to drive. Even if we got a ride to/from the airport and didn't have to pay to park, the train itself is pretty expensive. Yes, they have deals, but it's still not cheap for two people.

We plan on driving down the day before and staying at a hotel near the port. On the morning we sail we will drive to the port and leave the car there while we cruise. Once the ship returns it's an easy walk to the garage and we are on our way home with no worry about train schedules.

I just looked up my Uber receipts from March.

Not including tips, it was $25.88 from FLL to Hyatt Place. (Sat afternoon)
$12.90 from Hyatt Place to PE. (Sunday am)
Going from PE to FLL it was $27.49. (Friday am)

The hotels near Dania place tend to have free airport shuttles. Our Uber from there was about $20&tip.
