pork shoulder roast?

I was able to score a 3 lb pork shoulder roast for $2:thumbsup2

Except I've never cooked one and don't know what to do :rotfl2:

Can I use this type of roast for crock pot with bbq sauce? It still has some skin, do i have to remove the skin or wait till after it's cooked?

I appreciate any advice or recipe!!

They are great for the crockpot..throw it in on low first thing in the am, then about an hr or two before you want to serve it, shred it and add the bbq sauce if you want to do sandwiches. You can also do it like you would a pot roast in the crockpot..just throw it in with some carrots and potatos underneath and leave it on low all day. I loooove my crockpot! If you wanted to go more gourmet allrecipes.com has good recipes too.
 
I am going to assume by skin you mean there is some fat left on the roast. If that is the case what I would do is season the roast, put it in the oven at 350 degrees for about 2 1/2 hours. With an hour or so to go, put in pealed and quartered potatoes. Roll the potatoes around in the juice and baste them occasionally. You will have a nice roast and the best potatoes in the world. OK, not the healthiest way to eat potatoes, but oh well.

You are going to have to I mean HAVE TO try this one.
It's Pernil. A Puerto Rican version of it from my MIL.

I'm assuming BONE IN. Pork Shoulder.

You score the FAT- in a diamond pattern.

rinse the shoulder

Pour some apple vinegar on it

cut holes in it all over the place - in those holes stuff a sliver of garlic,oregano and some ADOBO(think spice) and I add in some Sofrito- (you can find that in the freezer section - but you can also skip that if you don't have it on hand. If it's not homemade to me it's not worth adding anyway.

Then you sprinkle the whole thing with Adobo. cover and let sit OVERNIGHT

Put it in a roaster pan COVERED with Foil. Cook on 350 for 2 hours and then take off the foil and cook for about another hour- depending on the size of your shoulder.

It's YUMMY!
