Porch pirates!

The risk here is pretty low, but we've also been lucky, I guess. We live in an apartment condo and at least half the time both Amazon and my meal subscription service leave the packages down in the foyer rather than bringing them to the door. Every time I walk through there, there are always two or three or more packages just sitting, waiting for the recipients to realize it and collect them. When they do deliver to the door, often they just leave the package in the hallway and don't even knock on the door. Anybody could grab the stuff but so far, we've not lost anything. That said, if we order something very valuable or important, I always have it delivered to my office and received by the receptionist.

Haven't had porch pirates but we have had quite a few misdelivered packages in the neighborhood. Neighbors complaining on Facebook page about USPS, Fedex, UPS, or Amazon packages marked delivered but not in their mailbox or on their property.

Not sure how many find the real owner.
This happened to us on Friday. A different name, our address (except with an apartment number) and a different postal code. Checked online where the postal code was. Actually the next block. There were 93 addresses connected with it. Looked for the buildings with 4 apartments. Found one with one number different. Was getting ready to go see if it was theres. Our doorbell rang, it was the gentleman looking for his parcel. He had called Fed Ex and was told where his package had been delivered. If we had just left, we would have crossed paths. Too funny! He mentioned that he is expecting another parcel on Monday and if we could keep it for him. Got his phone number and will call him to pick it up. DD had said why don't you call Fed Ex to tell them. Told her it wasn't a Fed Ex error. It was the sender who made a mistake. If we couldn't find the person, we would call Fed Ex. Easy fix on our part.

I did the Key on my garage because I was having some edible things delivered often enough that I was more worried about the animals than I was pirates. Wise choice for either in my opinion.
it would freak me out knowing a stranger had access to my garage. Maybe a detached garage I’d feel different. But my bedroom is above the garage, if I’m upstairs and hear the door opening, I’d panic.

It's an attached garage but they'd have to do some serious damage to get into the house from there. I understand how you feel about it though. It took me a long time to get used to the idea, and I only use it for items that I worry about. It did take some time to get to that point though.

About a year ago my neighbor had their new IPhone stolen off their porch about a half an hour after it was delivered (they had the entire incident caught on their porch camera) but other than that I haven't heard of anything near me. The neighbor never got the phone back nor did they find out who stole it.
This happened to me as well. I usually have my stuff delivered to work. For some reason - I delivered to home. AT&T did not require a signature. Phone was stolen 10 minutes after it was delivered by a guy in a orange vest pretending to be like an Amazon driver. Must have been working with Fedex Driver as he didn't even pull his vehicle past the driveway, so he could not even see the package yet knew it was there. From cameras from our neighbors - he drove in our cul de sac 3 times that day. Gave all the info to the police. Not sure if he was caught (they had the license plate # and stuff) AT&T did send me a new phone.

We have a large rubbermaid tote on the porch with a lid and a sign on the top saying Please Place Packages Inside Tote.It seems to work pretty well, although there are some drivers who put the package on top of the tote,or next to it.
