I have stayed at CBR (2x), CSR, ASMo, POP (2x) and offsite 2x. We are staying at POR the week after Thanksgiving (11/28 - 12/6) for the first time. I was just watching a home video "walking tour" of POFQ and POR and POR just looks kind of dark/plain. Please tell me it was this persons video and not the resort. We are travelling with another family and it is their 1st visit. We've told them how nice the Disney resorts are and I don't want them to get there and be disappointed (us either). I've seen many beautiful pictures but this is the first actual video I've seen. We are somewhat limited for hotel choices as we are a family of 5 and the other family has 6 (5 and a baby).

I have stayed at Poly (7x), CBR (1x), CSR (1x), SoG (2x), ASMusic (1x) and most recently at POR.

This resort has some of the best theming I have seen. The grounds are beautiful, just very spread out. I would not be concerned that it is dark or gloomy. The landscaping was gorgeous. And there are seamless transitions from the mansions to the bayou sections.

We've got a Walking Tour video over at www.portorleans.org/video.php, was that the one you're referring to? If so, the only bits which I would describe as being at all "dark" are the parts where they are going through the tree-lined pathways in the wooded sections, which I guess are going to be darker than the wide-open bits. But overall I certainly don't get the impression that it's an overall dark resport from this video, it's just very lushly landscaped. If not, could you let us know which video you have been watching?

We've only stayed at the CSR, but we have visited POR frequently because we really enjoy their food court. After eating, we usually always take a walk around the resort. I never found it dark at all. I think it is just as lush as the rest of the moderates...beautiful landscaping.

That's exactly the video I was watching. Was the weather overcast or something? Things just didn't look "green" and inviting and the colors on the buildings were kind of blah. Even the inside of the POR food court were darkish. The pools however were very pretty.

Don't worry about it, must just be the way the video comes over to someone who's never been. The food court is large and the themeing is of an old wooden mill building, so it's not going to be "stadium floodlit", but it's absolutely fine, honest!

Colour-wise, the resort is probably a good deal more muted than (say) Caribbean Beach or the Values, but again that's the way it's meant to look in the rustic backwater Bayou area. It's rather like saying that Frontierland is a bit less bright and shiney than Tomorrowland; yes, true but it'd be wrong otherwise.

Believe me, you'll love it once you're there.

11 people in two rooms - hope you all get on well together! :)

It is a very lush resort. Early in the morning the river is so still you can see the reflection of the trees in it and the sun reflecting off...so beautiful!

We just returned form POR and it was like be transformed in time. Like a old 1920's movie. It was just beautiful.

The OP'er has been to CSR and CBR. So you should have a general idea of what to expect at POR. The theming is different but those three resorts have a lot in common as far as amenities.
