We are planning our first visit to POR for this May. We have been to Disney many times, but have mostly stayed at CBR. The in-laws are coming with us (in 80's) and we are not sure if we should book preferred rooms or the mansions. They are used to walking from Jamacia building at CBR to the food court. How far is the walk from the mansions to the food court? We would love to get the rooms with queen size beds, but realize only one of the preferred buildings is refurbished and the 2 mansion buildings. How is the bus stop at the mansions? Are the buses full by the time they get to the mansions? There are 6 adults going and we have to book 3 rooms. The resort looks great and any info would be appreciated.

If you want to stay in the mansion section, I highly recommend Magnolia Terrace as your choice of building. It's the closest to the bridge and is only about a 2-5 minute walk to the main building for breakfast. As far as bus stops, there is a bus stop right behind the building, however, I always liked to take the main bus stop on my way to the parks in the morning and saved the other bus stops for getting dropped off. I find the bus service better at the main stops during busy times.

I really enjoy strolling through the resort so I don't mind being in a building further off the beaten path from the main building. We were in Parterre in Magnolia Bend and I liked it. But if you do have mobility issues or have very tired kids at the end of a full day at the parks, it may be a little further walk than you like.

And like boscov, we also used the main bus stop for getting onto the busses for the parks.

Hello there , and good choice..

We just had our 1st trip there back in Nov. and we were very skeptical as well. Not sure where to request, not sure what to expect. Yadda yadda...
I originally booked a standard room. When we arrived for our 9 night trip, it was already 10 30 pm. I asked the CM if there were any updated rooms in the mansion area that were still available. It took a few minutes but he was pleased to say yes. Also we got this w/out them asking for the additional $$.(Not sure if this was because the time we showed up?) Anyhow, After grabbing our MYW card & bags, we took a short stroll through the main doors near the lagoon area. We proceeded over the 1st bridge towards the main pool, and then across the next bridge to the mansions. Low and behold, the Magnolia Bldg, (which we had) was right there. Our room was just through the main hallway on 2 floor facing the back gardens. *** Literally a 6 minute walk. For you with elders maybe an 8-10 minute walk. If that ! The pool is half that. Now for the buses. This was the only thing that was just ok. very crowded no matter time of day or park. Especially Fantasmic from HS.

What we did was walk to the main bldg to grab either a pastry or small bite then proceeded to the main bldg bus depot. When we returned from the parks we got off at the east depot, which was a 4 minute walk from the stop to our room. The place is gorgeous and the theming is very nice. Not soo much in yer face Disney, (like the values)...LoL Good Luck and have a great time.
