POR vs. POFQ

Besides the obvious fact that POFQ is smaller than POR are there any features that make one better than the other.

I'm wondering specifically about the pools and foodcourts. It's hard to get an accurate view of the pools in pictures, especially the slides. I would love some opinions on these resorts!!

We've never stayed at POR but we love POFQ....it is a very pretty and compact resort. We also found it extremely quiet and very relaxing. The size is a nice feature because it means that nothing is ever really far away.....we stayed in building 5 and DH would go down to the food court every morning to get coffee and bring it back up and it was really nice. We has a rental car so I can't comment on the transportation. The food court was fine....we ate breakfast there a few times and thought it was good, but we're easy to please, especially when we're in Disney.....have fun deciding :)

We stayed at POR and the pool was okay. The slide was just a slide, but it was taller than the one at POFQ. Since there are more people at POR it was more crowded, but the food court is much much bigger and I love the atmosphere.

we fished at POR and that was a blast.

I walked around FQ and ate in the food court and it wasnt bad but I felt cramped after eating all week at POR.

It really depends on you, POFQ has just be renovated recently and will have really nice beds/rooms. POR is under renovations now.
good luck and let us know what you decide.

I've never stayed at POR, but we stayed at POFQ last year and I just fell in love with it. We walked around a bit at POR and it just didn't interest me much at all. But POFQ was juts so lush and beautiful with the landscaping and architecture and colors. Beautiful. It's definitely become my favorite moderate.

We have stayed at both of them, and they are both great. Obviously, the size is the main difference. If you get one of the outer buildings at POR, you will be in for some walking, while FQ is compact.

POR had a sit down restaurant, while FQ has only the food court. I would give the edge to FQ food court, simply because it doesn't seem to be as packed as POR is most of the time. Food quality is about the same.

Transportation edge to FQ, as some times of year, they share bus service with POR, and FQ gets picked up and dropped off first.

IMO, the FQ main pool is better than POR, but POR has quiet pools, which can be wonderful. We've used a quiet pool when the main pool was packed, and had it entirely to ourselves. Both of the main pools at these resorts get very busy.

FQ was rehabbed about two years ago, and I think POR is just finishing up the rehab of the last buildings this month.

But this is one of those decisions that you can't lose either way. (We stayed at FQ on our last April's visit, and are at POR this April.)

We have stayed several times at both. We first fell in love with PO-FQ. I love the small size, the serpent's tongue slide, and the theming. When our DD was about 6 or 7, we switched to PO-R. She thinks the slide at the POR pool is better and the play area is definitely geared toward older children (the playground at POFQ is for little kids). We also like the food court at POR better. If having a sit down restaurant is important to you, POR is the only one of the two with a restaurant. Also, POR is where you rent bikes, water mice, boats, etc. So, for that, POR is more convenient.

You don't say whether you have children or not. To us, that makes the difference. If you have no kids or kids 5 and under, I'd choose POFQ. For families with older children, POR. Both are great.

POFQ, we have stayed at both POFQ & POR, we like them both, but favor POFQ. It is smaller and easier move about. Food is good and the kids love the serpent slide. Theming is GREAT!

I appreciate everyone's responses. Picking a resort is probably the hardest decision to make and I know it is like comparing apples to oranges so hearing first hand accounts is so helpful.

I do have children, dd's will be 11 and 9 at the time of our trip. I had decided on Wilderness Lodge, but I'm afraid there will be no discounts for my time frame so I thought I had better have a back up plan. Although, I'm thinking that the price difference between WL and a moderate is going to be about $500 which is a very significant amount!! I might just forego WL altogether and just plan on a moderate. We've stayed at CBR and except for the pool, we found nothing about the resort that would make us want to return.

I think I'm leaning toward POR but would love more input!!!

We've stayed at both, and we love POFQ mainly because of it's size (we have 3 young children). Since your kids are bigger, they might actually enjoy POR more because it's bigger, more to explore. Either way, you can't lose! :teeth:

Hi! I am staying at POR in June with my two kids, due in good part to the great reviews I got of the resort here. I'll share more when I get back about it.

Does anyone know for sure if the POR renovations is done? I think the newly rehabbed rooms is another good reason to choose this resort.

Have stayed at POR 4x (and also at CSR & CBR). We walked all around POFQ and ate in the food court. FQ has lots of fans, and I think it is a great place for older folks, those couples who want a moderate and quiet, or those with young children. It is compact and quiet. Our family preferred being where there was more activity, more pools, more to do..........I know they are sister resorts, but we didn't want to travel back and forth. Room wise it doesn't sound like much difference between FQ & Mansion side of POR. Food court was a considerable difference but so is the resort size. The pool at FQ is very cute but my kids (who were elementary age) thought it looked baby-ish for them. I like that the POR pool is kinda an L shape, making it a kiddie end and older end if that makes sense. We thought the lush landscaping at POR was so nice, lovely resort to walk around in. A very warm resort with southern charm.

PS If you like slides have you considered CSR !

We just switched from WL to POR, mostly for the atmosphere (not to mention the $ saved).

I believe I read somewhere recently that they just finished all of the renovations in POR, so you should be good to go.

We stayed at the POFQ 3 years ago. We have booked our vacation for the first part of June there again. I absolutely love it!!! I have 2 children ages 8 & 11. They love the pool and the slide and the New Orleans atmosphere. We never had to worry about having a seat on the bus because we were always picked up first and always dropped off first. Everything is right there at your
fingertips. The bus stop, food court, pool and the boat to downtown disney.
It really is an awesome resort.

I never even thought about CSR as a possibility, I'm not sure the theming appeals to me. But I would love to hear more!! I know it's a pretty big resort, how is the transportation? One thing I hated about CBR is that no matter what time of the day it was we always ended up standing on the bus. Not a huge deal for me, but it was very difficult for dd's to stay upright!!

POR also has a lounge with a cheezy lounge act, carriage rides and campfire program.

I have stayed at both an prefer POR by far. I think the theme is more well executed and it has a lot of variety in architecture. There are 5 pools, a food court, which I think has better food and there is the full service restaurant. In general I like the over all feel better.
POFQ was nice though a bit bland. The pool is fun for little ones and more fantasy oriented than any of the other pools. We also enjoyed the compactness of POFQ.

We have decided on POR though it took changing our ressies 4 times. :scared1: We originally started out with CSR, then changed to WL, then split stay to WL and Poly, I called TA and asked her to add dining on and she suggested that we stay here, she says it's her favorite resort and EsmereldaX also loves this resort, so I figured What the heck? We actually have a waterview room with the dining option and saved over $700! So I am sooo looking forward to this.
