POR vs CBR

We returned from our first family trip at CBR/Disney and booked a BB. This time we booked a POR as I heard it's better for buses into parks, less walking to main area etc.. However I'm getting worried as I am thinking maybe we should stick with what we know at CBR? Plus we also really liked having the main pool and our own quiet pools. So, for those who have stayed at both or POR-- what did you like there?

- POR has a main pool and quiet pools as well.
- CBR is probably a better main pool since it had some rehab.
- Never have had big issues with POR buses but we always board at first stop.
- At CBR we drive to parks and avoid the buses.
- POR has the boat to DS so if that is in your plan that is really nice.
- POR is a beautiful resort and smaller.
- You should be fine at either so go with your gut as to where you want to stay.

We much prefer POR to CBR. It's smaller, fewer bus stops, more manageable, better food court. Also love the boat to DTD and the fact that you can walk over to POFQ and use their pool and amenities as well. CBR has probably a better main pool than POR, but you also have POFQ's main pool. We always used the quiet pool at POR and it worked out well.

We have stayed at both multiple times and we have found neither resort has better or worse bus service. Also, unless you stay in the Pirate Rooms at CBR the 2 resorts have the same footprint and the same amount of walking to the food court and main pool. Both are great resorts we just happen to prefer CBR.

Bus service can be ANYTHING at ANY time at ANY er sort--there is no such thing as a resort with good/bad bus service.

IMHO POR has the best food court on WDW property and the boat ride to DTD is just lovely. I suggest you give it a try!

First I will say what I always say when it comes to buses:) They are hit or miss no matter what resort you stay at. POR also has a main pool as well as quite pools. They are also about the same in resort size, a lot of folks like to reserve preferred rooms at both of these resorts to make sure there is no chance of getting a room that may be a 10 minute walk to the main area. We liked the pirate themed pool with the zero entry better than POR, but we just seem to like POR better for everything else. From the FC, the boat to DS, having the carriage ride option and being able to use POFQ amenities or buses. For our family we would not hesitate to stay at any of the 4 Mod resorts.

Did you see this? CBR will have two separate bus services to MK and EP, so fewer stops for each service. This may put it ahead in bus service:

I booked a BB for POR, but now I'm trying to decide if CBR or CSR would be better.

Actually the split service is for Epcot and Hollywood Studios. They use the longer articulating buses for MK so they don't need to split the route for that park. And not as many people go to Animal Kingdom.

You are right! I read that too quickly. It does seem like a step in the right direction.

POR has a better arcade and also a better QS food court (makes great pasta). POR also has boat to DTD. CBR has a way way better pool and slide. We find CBR seems brighter and sunnier (due to the colors I guess), just love walking around CBR. Like you CBR was our first resort and we consider it our home resort and always stay there every trip because we love it. This year we are going for Xmas.

both have long walks from some rooms... both have many people trying to use the same buses at the same times... both have main and quiet pools. I love both but somehow feel CBR is more kid friendly and POR more adult friendly. Nothing Disney about POR

We'll be staying for the 4th time at POR next month and we stayed at CBR once....because that was the only mod available with a discount for me one year. I wanted to like CBR, but I just didn't. It felt big and awkward to get around. POR is big also, but the layout seems to work better.....or maybe it's just in my head.

Here's MHO of the positives. For overall theme I think CBR is nicer. While they are both pretty resorts, I personally preferred the theme and the landscaping of CBR. The beach feel vs. old south was just more my liking. The beaches are nice and I liked the sitting courtyards with plenty of shade at each building group. The pool is larger and better themed. That said....my family prefers to stay at POR.

For me, while both resorts are large, the layout of POR works better for me. While CBR is a circle, POR is laid out more like a fan, with the main building at the bottom and the rooms spread out over the top. While the pathways are not exactly straight...I felt more like I was walking from point A to point B at POR and not so much at CBR where I felt like I was walking around more due to the lake. While the landscaping of CBR is very pretty...the tree lined paths of POR felt more relaxing to walk and in the summer months, shaded and cooler. The trek to the food court from CBR, even using the bridge and in the mornings just felt long and hot.

I also prefer that the main building is all one at POR and not spread into 2 locations as it is at CBR. I did need to go to the desk a couple times during our stay at CBR and there really isn't a great way to walk there unless you are in the island right next to it....so had to wait for the bus. It also is nicer IMHO to make 1 trip to the lobby and grab some coffee at the same time. I also didn't understand that you needed to call and book a ride to the lobby for your check out, and we were too late arriving there to use RAC so we had to take our luggage with us. My own fault....but still, inconvenient when we were used to just walking to the lobby at other resorts, I didn't know how it worked there.

We only use the food courts a few times on our stays, CBR was perfectly fine, but I liked POR better. As far as bus service...like others have said we had the good and the bad during every stay no matter where. Both resorts have multiple stops and while CBR has more...sometimes at POR you also share with POFQ. My only complaint sometimes is the loading area at the parks. On our stay at CBR it seemed like we always had the very last one.

regards

We have stayed at POR twice and CBR once. We prefer POR by a huge margin.

Stayed at both, enjoyed them both. I prefer the pools at CBR and the food court at POR.

I really think ALL the mods are fantastic!

We've stayed a both. Both of the resorts are large and both have several bus stops. I don't think one really has an advantage in terms of size or bus service. Both have main and quiet pools. There is concierge desk at OPR so we didn't have an issue with the Customs House. I think most of it just comes down to theming. The one advantage CBR has is that it's been recently refurbed. POR hasn't been refurbed since 2011 or so. I would try whichever one you haven't stayed at yet. We love trying new places.
