POR vs. AKL?

So at the moment I have a room-only reservation booked for POR for January of next year. I have heard that there can be room discounts for January though and that has me wondering if I should switch my room-only to AKL so that I don't lose out on a standard view there, and hope that a code comes in. I'm just wondering if I do that, will there still be rooms left at POR if the discounts don't happen for next January the way they have in the past? Also, I have AAA but no clue how much off that would be at the deluxe resorts.

I'm so confused! My fiance always talks about how cool AKL sounds and I would love to surprise him by switching there, but I know how budget conscious he is and I wouldn't want him to be more annoyed with the price than excited about the experience. :-/

Ps. We already have park tickets purchased for the trip so I wouldn't want to do a package deal with free dining. Besides that I eat a kids meal or an appetizer everywhere so free dining isn't so helpful for me.

we just stayed at POR for the first time....loved it, and we were going to stay at AKL before we decided on POR. the deciding factor was the distance each one was to all the parks. AKL is a hefty haul... every where i checked i would read the distance was bad. POR was quick. so you might want to invest some time and check on this like i did. hope this helps a little.

No comparison between both resorts. AKL is the winner hands down if you're not worried about price. This resort usually has the largest discounts between all of the Deluxes (30% to 40%) if/when they come out.

In terms of ammenities and convenience, this room offers just about everything you could want in a resort. Plus one of the coolest resorts in North America. I mean, where else can you stare out your window and view all kinds of african wildlife?

I have stayed at both and there is no comparison. AKL wins hands down. It is one of my favorite resorts.

I've stayed at both and prefer POR. It really is a matter of opinion. I found AKL to be too spread out for just me and my 2 kids (but, yes, the animals were cool!). Bus service was not bad, though, at either resort.

You really need to decide what atmosphere you like best and stick with that. If you can afford both w/out a discount, then book which appeals to you most.

We always stay at POR and love it. We've never stayed at AKL, unfortunately, because our family of five would require a room thatis too costly for us. We would love to stay there someday, though.

I would NOT worry about there not being any rooms left at POR. There are aLOT of rooms at POR!

They're hardly comparable considering AKL is a deluxe resort and POR isn't. AKL hands down. No offense to POR, but I mean let's be serious here...
