I haved stayed at POR in the past, and would love to go back. But my next trip will more than likely be solo. So I am looking for advice from someone who has been there, done that!

Were your room requests met? I would want to stay in the AB section, but someone posted that they always put solos in the Mansions. Is this true? I would be heart-broken.

Did you ask for a room close to the main buildings? Was your request met?

Did you feel safe walking the grounds at night? With all the trees and shrubbery, did it feel to isolated?

I'm hoping you guys will tell me that there are no worries, I really want to revisit POR!

I happen to love the mansions so it was great for me.
I also ask for 85 - magnolia blends - and except for once it was meet.

(there were working mb at the time)

I feel pretty safe at all the WDW hotels.

if you have any worries you can have a security guard walk you to your room.
(this may include a long wait)

but I don't think you need it.

I stayed at POR last year. I asked to stay in AB. I was in bldg. 15 which turned out to be a nice location. Not to far from the main building and across the parking lot from the bus stop. If I was not staying at one of the DVC villas, POR (Dixie Landing) would be my first choice.

I never once felt uneasy walking at night. There were always lots of people around. Being able to take the boat over to/from DTD to night was nice. My advice is to be aware of your surroundings. Don't hesitate to ask the front desk to have someone escort you back to your room.

I've traveled a great deal around the world for buiness solo. There have been places where I would not leave the hotel without a driver/escort/guard. Disney is one of a hand full of places I feel very safe at.

Go. Enjoy. Traveling solo can be a blast if you are open to the adventure it can offer.

I used to stay at POR for all my solo trips-I loved it (now we're DVC members). However, I requested AB section twice and yet I always got the Mansions. And I always requested upper floor, but they put me on the first floor once. However, after a few minutes in the room, I felt so uncomfortable, I went back to the front desk and asked for a room change (I know, DH says I'm a wimp). The CM was very accomodating about moving me. And I never minded walking around the resort late at night (a couple times after midnight) even though I'm a country girl who's fairly easily spooked. But there's always so many families and children around, whatever the hour it seems. I made 5 solo trips to the POR, and if we hadn't joined DVC, I'm sure I'd be headed there for my 8th soon.

I stayed at POR solo many times prior to joining DVC. I prefer the Magnolia Bend section of the resort, and requested it every time. My request was always honored. I definately wouldn't hesitate to reccomend this resort - I love it!!

I am probably one of the solo people who posted that I never get AB. I think that's my biggest pet peeve about POR. Twice I requested (nicely!), and twice flatly refused. Nothing but mansions for me. Sad thing is, both times instead of AB, I got a room literally feet away from the parking lot in the way back of farthest mansion Parterre Place. Ugh. I find requests mean absolutely nothing, and I find being solo means nothing. Even at other resorts - one time at WL, they put me in a ground floor room directly next to a loading dock (with trucks and strangers constantly coming and going)! The worst possible place for a solo female!! I asked for a different room - nope, they're full. :(

I actually suspect I tend to be placed in the least desirable rooms because I am solo, as I guess I am perceived as having few "needs", like I don't ever need to be near a pool, bus stop, or food court like the families do. I won't stay again at POR solo because I can't get a different section of the resort - seen the parking lot of Parterre Place enough times! :(

Sorry to sound so down, but I had NO luck at all getting a decent room there (or anywhere). I am pretty used to it now. Hopefully you will have better luck than me!
