I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

3.) Are there any compelling reasons to keep the card open? I stay in a Marriott about once per year for one or two nights.
Just the free 35k night.

Personally I would see about upgrading it to the Ritz card.
$450 AF but comes with a $300 travel credit (Have to call in to redeem though) and an 85K certificate.
If you don't have a CSR it has the same travel protections as it is a Visa Infinite as well (Better than the CSP)

Oh, so all Visa Infinite cards provide the same travel protections? Including for rental car insurance?

Would it be crazy to spend $195 on an authorized platinum user so ds could use fhr for one night at Portofino Bay? I’m trying to come up with a mini vacation for him and his gf and thought they could drive to Orlando, spend a night on my Hilton points, spend one night at PB and get two-day park-to-park tickets, then go spend some time with my mom in SW FL.

Dealing with a lot of stress at work and trying to figure something out for ds who’s going through a lot plus trying to figure out if I go spend Thanksgiving with my mom (no one else is going down) may legitimately do me in.
I don't think it's crazy at all. Check first to see if you have a 20k offer to add an AU- I have it on mine. Plus DS will also get TSA/GE benefits and lounge access benefits, which might come in handy at some other times.

No but they are close. However since these are the same issuer (Chase) they seem to be. My Venture X has slightly less coverage than CSR/Ritz. I believe all infinite cards offer primary rental car coverage (I believe Cap1 and Chase are same coverage amount since Chase had lowered theirs). BOA still offers primary CDW up to $75k

Good to know because I doubt I'll want to keep my CSR when the higher fee hits next year. Thanks!

Did you have an Alaska mileage account before?

I didn't have to do anything with mine, it changed over on its own. My login and balance are the same. Only thing that changed is I like their app less because od how they changed the login part.

I didnt have Alaska before only Hawaiian and it had me create a new login, it issued me a new Atmos account # and all my miles etc transferred over right away.

I did have an Alaska account and the 65,000 bonus from the credit card from a couple of months ago. But now I am remembering that when I set up my Atmos account, I was having trouble with the Alaska login info but my Hawaiian account seemed to get me in. I am guessing my actual Alaska account isn't linked. Ugh. This sounds like it will be fun to figure out!

Has he had the plat before? If not, taking the upgrade will lock him out of the SUB in the future.

The Uber credit is already in your account, it won't get taken away. The rest it would be safer to wait until the credits post to upgrade. Upgrade offers do sometimes disappear though.

You would be refunded the prorated gold AF and then charged a prorated plat AF. The full year plat AF won't be charged until 5/18/26. At which point, you can't cancel or downgrade because it hasn't been a year after the upgrade. You'll need to remember to wait the full year, then you can downgrade back to gold for prorated AF refund (no refund if you cancel by that point).

He had the plat from 12/2020 and cancelled 01/2024. Thanks for explaining how the annual fees work when you upgrade. I wasn't sure how that would work.

Personally I would wait until you can meet the spend and apply new. Right now we have an offer or 175k points for 8k spend. An extra 100k points for only an extra 2k spend is pretty great.

That offer does sound great, I'll have to watch for that - thanks!

Since he's had the plat before, it's highly likely he'll get pop-up for a new plat.

There are DPs for 100k and 125k upgrade offers. Since you're on the fence anyways, might want to see if it goes up.

Is there a difference in Saver vs Main or being refundable?
i always book him main, so I didn't really closely examine the other options. I will just go ahead and book on the Alaska website instead of using URs at 1.5.

Nevermind - I am an idiot sometimes. When I went to book the Alaska roundtrip and the total price was coming up $516 (which by the way is $50 cheaper than 2 one-ways it was showing me), it hit me that Chase was showing the total price instead of 2 one-way prices. DUH! So I did book for 34,346 pts

In my defense I haven't booked any flights through the portal in a long time! Forgot what they were doing.

Glad it worked out well for you!

I had a little incident with Visa gift cards this week. I was making a $450 purchase and I had 3 of the $200 cards ready to swipe. Swiped 2 of them and the cashier started being helpful and offered to put them in the trash for me. I never do that as I keep them and write on them what I used them for so I kept them. Swiped the 3rd card and it got declined.

Swiped it a few more times, now with more cashier help. Put the last $50 on a credit card and left. At home I took the time to check out all 3 cards, and found that I had been swiping the 1st card I used which had already been drained. Meanwhile the last card had never been swiped and still had it's $200 intact. Totally user error! I have no real defense.

Good thing you didn't let her throw them away! 🙂

Yes! There is after all a record you can print out of where the card was used and since I pay electric, gas and also use them online as well as at Costco, I always make little notes just in case.

The cards also say not reloadable but Petco put a returned item's funds back on a visa gift card one time. They insisted the funds had to go back to the card they came from. Sure enough, the balance increased and the website showed the return of funds in a day or two. Haven't had that happen anywhere else. At least in the short term I keep them and make sharpie notes on them. The store receipts also have the GC's last 4 on them.
