POR - Room Request

We arrive August 20th

Family of 4 - kids are 7 and 9

Priority: Close to morning coffee and transportation. My wife doesn’t want to be at the south bus depot.

#1. Close to a bus
#2. Close to food (coffee)
#3. Nice room (possibly refurbished)

She was thinking asking for a refurbished room in building 80, but she’s not sure if they are done yet.

Any idea how we should go about a room request?

We've stayed in building 80 multiple times. It's not a bad walk to the food court or the north depot, or Old Man Island pool.. There is a coffee maker with coffee pods in each room, so coffee is an arms length away.

Well you already made the request difficult because you want to be close to lobby for coffee (assuming you do not want to use the room coffee maker) but that is where the south bus stop is. I would not put close to bus stop as your #1, since there are 4 bus stops you may be put at the back of the resort. For our family we had no issues with that, but there are many posters that have an issue walking more than 4-5 minutes. I would put 1) Mansions (if that's the section you want) 2) close to food court
Since there are 4 bus stops you are really not far no matter where your room is at.

I think I’d like building 14. But that’s is a preferred location and we have a standard room

Because it's a separate, higher-priced room location, you should expect not to have this request granted. Plus, it's really, really close to the South bus stop.

Totally agree! I just laugh at those posts. Our family really like walking through the resorts we stay at. At POR at night, we almost always get off at the front just so we could stroll to our room that was in the back. A very relaxing and enjoyable walk, with the lights and the river, plus it's w good way to unwind from a very busy park day. We have learned to relax and enjoy our trips and the resort we're staying at, not just rushing to/from our room and bus stops.

OP; preferred rooms are a paid category and the chance of getting one with a request is nearly 0%. Have you checked out this site https://www.portorleans.org/ it has a lot of good information.

We stayed in a corner room in building 24, just about as far from the main building as you can get in Alligator Bayou, and we stayed in the back of Parterre Place, just about as far in the mansions from the main building and nothing was more than a 10-11 minute walk. Of course, that was once we found the proper route in the map.

Why would you request a room in a category you didn't book and not expect to pay an upgrade fee?

The location you want is in a different booking category. I think what you’re asking is for them to switch you to the other category through a room request, then charge you the difference at check-in. They won’t do that.

There are two ways to make that change. You can call the reservation line now and book the preferred room, or you can wait till you arrive at the resort and ask at the desk if you can upgrade to a preferred room. Either way, you may lose any discounts that you currently have on your reservation. It depends on what discounts are offered at the time you make the change.

I see, so maybe a building 16 request or 85 and see how that goes.

If you stay with your standard room then I would request to be as close as possible to the main building/food court in Alligator Bayou. None of the mansions have been renovated yet---I believe they just started working on those earlier this month. All of alligator bayou is renovated now. We love POR, but will only book preferred rooms so that we can be close to the food court and the kids like the waterslide at the main pool. I know alot of people hate the south depot because of the lines to get on the busses, but we don't mind it at all. Usually if there is a line and you don't make it onto a bus there, there is another bus right behind or within just a few minutes to pick up and weve only had this happen in the earlier morning hours.
