POR Room Location Question

HI everyone,

We're looking at booking a stay at POR.

I'm deciding between a Preferred View and a River View.

Here's my question:

The description of a Preferred View room says it's close to the main building, dining, etc.
However, the River View description does not....is this true?

Alligator Bayou, building 14, ground floor, rooms 1409-1416 are great because they are technically preferred but are actually a river view too! So close to everything!

I faxed in my request and got 1416!

Yes that is true. A preferred room gets you close to main building and food court and river view just guarantees that your room faces the river whether in the AB or Mansion section. I would get a river view and request a building to your liking. You are more likely to get it that way then if you book the other way. Less people get river view. Then fax in your request 10-14 days prior to arrival.

POR, among other resorts, do not look at fax requests anymore. They are discarded due to the new system for assigning rooms, so don't bother. Definitely call and make sure your request is added to the reservation a good two weeks before you arrive at least.

And it is true that preferred just means you will be close to the main pool and main buildings. All preferred rooms are in AB. River view can be any room in any building that faces the river. Since you cannot book both categories, you should book the category that's more important to you and then request the other. You will more than likely get the category you booked (essentially guaranteed) so that is why you should book the one more important to you. Frankly, I'd go with preferred if it's between the two because there's no private outside space for you to enjoy the river view since POR has exterior hallways. We kept our curtains shut most of the time at POR due to the people constantly walking by the room.

I believe that while most of the other resorts do not look at faxes, POR still does. I know people have who have stayed recently that faxed a request a few days before their trip and received a response by email. All of the preferred rooms are in Alligator Bayou and are very close to the lobby/food court. That said, with the possible exception of a few room in parterre Place (which are Royal Rooms anyway) all of the rooms overlooking the river would be pretty close to Ol' Man Island. From there it is just a short walk over the bridge to the main building.
